Job Description

Work Place Flexibility: Onsite

*This position can be filled as a Relay Apprentice 1st Year 2nd Year 3rd Year 4th Year or Relay Technician basedon the qualifications and experience of the selected candidates.*

*The below job description is that of a Relay Apprentice 1st Year and the qualifications duties and responsibilities increase/adjust according to the level that the position is filled.*

* The selected candidate is required to live within 45 miles of the job site. This position does not offer relocation benefits. *

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Under close supervision following specific instructions as to methods and working details must be willing and able to perform the less difficult tasks involved in making tests repairs adjustments and calibrations on relays meters telemeters supervisory control carrier current equipment and other similar apparatus and related equipment in laboratory and field and be qualified to do the following and related work as assigned:

  • Connect and read meters instruments etc.
  • Take notes in field and laboratory and prepare routine reports.
  • Perform necessary housekeeping.
  • Use hand tools.
  • Work off of ladders on poles structures or towers and have ability to handle self in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Operate Companys vehicles and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Assist in switching.
  • Assist in constructing installing and maintaining all relaying and associated equipment.
  • Assist in storm restoration in substations and other groups.

EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be willing and able to learn the Companys safety rules and be willing and able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation and be willing and able to render practical first aid.
  • Maintain automobile and truck drivers license TWIC card CIP background check or other applicable license background check or ID.
  • Be responsible for Company tools instruments and equipment.
  • Be willing and able to become familiar with relay and spare parts stock.
  • Have practical working knowledge of electrical circuits and equipment.
  • Be willing and able to read and understand wiring diagrams schematics and blueprints.
  • Be willing and able to perform routine operations of moderate complexity and variety.
  • Be willing and able to learn the Companys electrical and mechanical tagging rules and requirements for a qualified switchman.
  • Be willing and able to obtain working knowledge of Companys practices and standards as related to work.
  • Satisfactorily complete all necessary and mandatory training requirements associated with the position.
  • Relay Apprentice 1st Year:
    • at least 2 years of equivalent work/training in a relay related fieldOR
    • a twoyear Associates Degree specializing in electronics instrumentation computers or engineering
  • Relay Apprentice 2nd Year:
    • at least 1 yearandqualified as a Relay Apprentice 1st YearOR
    • at least 1 year of equivalent work/training in a relay related fieldanda 2year Associates Degree specializing in electronics instrumentation computers or engineeringOR
    • at least 3 years of equivalent work/training in a relay related field
  • Relay Apprentice 3rd Year:
    • at least 1 yearandqualified as a Relay Apprentice 2nd YearOR
    • at least 2 years of equivalent work/training in a relay related fieldanda 2year Associates Degree specializing in electronics instrumentation computers or engineeringOR
    • at least 4 years of equivalent work/training in a relay related field
  • Relay Apprentice 4th Year:
    • at least 1 year as a qualified Relay Apprentice 3rd YearOR
    • at least 3 years of equivalent work/training in a relay related fieldanda 2year Associates Degree specializing in electronics instrumentation computers or engineeringOR
    • at least 5 years of equivalent work experience in a related field
  • Relay Technician:
    • at least 1 year as a qualified Relay Apprentice 4th YearOR
    • at least 3 years of equivalent work/training in a relay related fieldanda 2year Associates Degree specializing in electronics instrumentation computers or engineeringandat least 4 years of equivalent work experience in a related field.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be willing and able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation to include but not limited to:
    • Have strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor as circumstances may require.
    • Be willing and able to work extended hours in support for overtime or emergency work including overtime.
    • Good handeye coordination physical dexterity and color vision.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be particularly alert in observing hazards and avoiding accidents.
  • Be willing and able to work under unusual surroundings as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job.
  • Possess keen faculties of observation.

  • Have a temperament suited to jobs where manual dexterity precision and patience are particularly essential.

  • Be willing and able to attend and take part in safety meetings.
  • Understand importance of always rendering and maintaining first class courteous service to all customers.
  • Be able to work out of town assignments as required.
