Position Summary:The Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) is responsible for providing appropriate medical animal treatment handling and care within the work environment in a manner that aligns with fear free training and AVHS policies.

Responsibilities:
- To learn and follow AVHSs policies and procedures and city county and state requirements in regard to animal welfare.
- To establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with staff members volunteers and other departments.
- To act in a manner consistent with Fear Free and similar animal handling practices.
- To provide daily care of animals in the facility including feeding bathing hygiene exercise behavior support.
- To maintain animal and facility physical spaces in a manner following disease control protocol to ensure a safe and healthy environment including but not limited to cleaning and laundry.
- To perform the examination of incoming animals.
- To perform initial health tests vaccinations and treatment for parasites.
- Administer anesthesia including intubation and monitoring surgery support and other medical treatments for animals.
- Administer controlled substances with oversight.
- Perform medical tasks as assigned.
- To maintain inventory of supplies.
- Monitor animals as advised by medical staff and communicate in the best interest of the animal.
- To perform other reasonable duties time to time as assigned.
- To maintain a general working knowledge of other departments locations functions and their contribution to the organization as a whole.
- To remain current on daily communication and time sensitive issues.
Qualifications:
- Licensed in Washington State as a Veterinary Technician
- Passion for the mission of Auburn Valley Humane Society. Knowledge of and commitment to animal welfare issues.
- Ability to pass a preemployment drug screening and background check.
Skills and Experience:
- Work experience as a veterinary technician or assistant. Preferred experience in a shelter or high volume spay/neuter clinic.
- Ability to communicate skillfully and effectively with diverse staff volunteers and community in a professional pleasant respectful and courteous manner.
- Ability to handle and assess potentially dangerous or fractious dogs and cats.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions verbal and written in repetitious tasks and oneoff situations.
- Demonstrated experience in working with a diverse staff in a positive friendly collaborative and inclusive manner.
Computer Skills:
- Comfortable learning new systems including online information systems and shelter software.
Physical Demands:
- Individuals will frequently be required to speak publicly; stand walk or sit for extended periods reach bend or stoop regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Able to work flexible hours which will include weekends and some evenings.
