What Youll Do

  • Establishes and manages the activities of all groups/employees to ensure efficient and timely completion of assigned mission; establishes priorities for resources among assigned programs.
  • May interface with all levels of workers and senior leadership both within and external to the Y12 organization; local State and/or Federal regulators and DOE representatives.
  • Reports to and receives functional guidance and direction from responsible/acting director or senior director.
  • Provides strategic leadership and responsible for development implementation and administration of comprehensive environmental protection worker health and safety or radiation safety programs.
  • Establishes schedules to meet completion dates and technical specifications makes policy interpretations reviews/coordinates staff output resolution of personnel/technical problems and manages staff assignments to meet the goals and objectives.
  • Supports organizations with professional consultation regarding their effort and impact on compliance with environmental safety and health issues; may provide advice and recommendations concerning the impact feasibility and cost of proposed programs.
  • Assesses and implements security safety regulatory environmental policies and practices within his/her organization.
  • Directs and/or recommends improvements in program procedures technology utilization and automation and analyzes impact of mission changes on design or concepts of assigned programs.
  • Other job duties as assigned/requested.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in a STEM related major and/or degree equivalencein business administration safety engineer industrial hygienists health physics environmental engineering: 12 years relevant experience.
  • Masters degree: Minimum 10 years of relevantexperience.
  • PhD: Minimum 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Broad experience in environmental safety and health disciplines including Industrial Hygiene and Radiological Control.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of or experience with specific/applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Experience managing personnel.
  • Ability to communicate with diverse levels of audiences.
  • Ability to interpret ES&H regulations/requirements and direct ES&H programs/operations at various levels of responsibility.
  • In addition the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e. Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major 2 years jobrelated and 1year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).DOE 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2A)
  • Ability to lead and coordinate the efforts of a team.
  • Advanced computer skills (e.g. Excel and Access).
  • Knowledge of energy safety and environmental requirements for Federal facilities.

Preferred Job Requirements

  • Masters degree preferred with 10 years relevant experience.
  • DOE experience preferred.
  • Project/program management experience preferred.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program 10 C.F.R. Part 712 which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligencescope polygraph examination.
