The Role:
We are seeking a Vice President of Engineering to lead our engineering teams in hardware engineering firmware development tools SDKs & applications development and manufacturing in our Stockholm office. This executive role will be a key part of the leadership team responsible for driving the technical vision and of Yubicos engineering strategies overseeing product development from design to manufacturing and ensuring that Yubicos products continue to meet the highest standards of security performance and reliability.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in hardware and firmware engineering along with exposure to manufacturing processes. You will be responsible for building leading and mentoring a highperforming engineering team while collaborating closely with other departments to ensure smooth product development and successful product launches.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management: Build lead and mentor Yubicos engineering teams across hardware engineering firmware development and manufacturing. Cultivate a culture of innovation collaboration and excellence while ensuring continuous team growth and development
Technical Strategy & Vision: Define and drive the engineering strategy for hardware and firmware systems at Yubico ensuring alignment with the overall product vision and business goals. Lead the of this strategy to create nextgeneration security products
Product Development & : Oversee the endtoend product development lifecycle from initial concept and prototyping to mass production. Ensure all hardware and firmware products are delivered on time meet security requirements and exceed quality and reliability
Manufacturing & Supply Chain Management: Collaborate with the operations and manufacturing teams to ensure smooth and efficient production processes. Drive optimization of manufacturing workflows quality control and supply chain management to ensure highquality products and scalability
CrossFunctional Collaboration: Work closely with product management design marketing and sales teams to align engineering efforts with business objectives. Ensure that products meet market needs and user requirements integrating feedback into future development cycles
Innovation & R&D: Foster a culture of innovation within the engineering team ensuring that Yubico continues to lead the market with groundbreaking security technologies. Stay informed on industry trends and emerging technologies that can influence future product development
Security & Quality Assurance: Ensure that all engineering processes and products adhere to the highest standards of security reliability and performance. Implement and enforce best practices for hardware and firmware testing verification and validation
Process Optimization: Continuously evaluate and improve engineering processes tools and workflows to increase efficiency reduce timetomarket and support scalability. Promote best practices in hardware and firmware development to streamline development efforts
Customer Focus: Engage with customerfacing teams to understand user needs and pain points ensuring that engineering solutions meet and exceed customer expectations. Leverage market insights to guide product improvements and new product initiatives
Basic Qualifications:
Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering Computer Science or a related field
Experience:
10 years of experience in hardware and firmware engineering with a proven ability to design and deliver complex secure products at scale
At least 5 years in a leadership role managing engineering teams and collaborating crossfunctionally to deliver successful hardware and firmware products
Strong experience with manufacturing processes including familiarity with hardware prototyping assembly quality control and scaling production Knowledge of contract manufacturing and managing global supply chains is a plus
Experience in secure hardware (e.g. smart cards hardware security modules encryption devices) and an understanding of security protocols (e.g. FIDO2 U2F TLS) is highly desirable
Experience with embedded firmware development (C C lowlevel programming) and embedded systems.
Proven ability to drive endtoend product development across hardware and firmware from design and development to testing deployment and production.
Familiarity with hardware design tools (e.g. PCB design schematic capture) and firmware development tools
Technical Skills:
Strong technical background in hardware engineering with experience in electrical design PCB layout and signal integrity
Indepth knowledge of embedded systems and firmware development with the ability to integrate hardware and software components to deliver highperformance secure products
Familiarity with manufacturing techniques and processes for highvolume product production (e.g. SMT PCBA etc.
Understanding of cryptography and security protocols is a major advantage
Leadership & Soft Skills:
Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to mentor and develop engineering talent while fostering a culture of collaboration innovation and accountability
Exceptional communication skills capable of presenting technical topics to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders
Strategic thinking and a strong business acumen able to balance shortterm product development goals with longterm technological growth and sustainability
Ability to thrive in a fastpaced dynamic environment managing multiple projects while maintaining high standards of quality and performance
Agility to address rapid shifts in product development and technology needs while ensuring that team members feel heard and that decisions are made collaboratively and inclusively to promote a sense of unity
Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Swedish is a plus
