What were looking for

MERC is a nonprofit organization based in Athens but with a global impact. The Centre was founded to fill a gap in the maritime industrys approach to decarbonization. While there are numerous initiatives focused on the future of maritime energy particularly in the development of alternative fuels there is a need for a dedicated effort to address the immediate challenges faced by the existing fleet using conventional fuels and support it to reduce GHG emissions.

We are committed to overcoming the technical financial commercial and societal barriers that hinder the adoption of the solutions and practices required to decarbonize the existing fleet. Through collaborative research applied innovation and strategic partnerships MERC seeks to accelerate the maritime industrys transition to more efficient and sustainable operations. The Centres mission is to provide the maritime industry with the tools knowledge and support needed to implement solutions that deliver immediate and longterm benefits.

As we start to ramp up our activities we are looking for a Project Manager to support the Director and help manage our projects. This is a unique opportunity to join the MERC at an early stage and help the industry on its voyage to a more sustainable future.

The role

Project Planning and :

  • Lead projects from inception to completion.
  • Develop project plans timelines and budgets ensuring projects meet deadlines and remain within scope.
  • Coordinate with internal teams external partners and stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Track project performance monitor successful completion of short and longterm goals.
  • Prepare and present project reports.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and provide regular project updates.
  • Collaborate with shipping companies ports regulatory bodies and technology providers to identify opportunities for emission reductions.
  • Represent MERC at external meetings and conferences.

Technical:

  • Stay up to date with industry trends policies and regulations related to marine decarbonisation.
  • Carry out research and reviews.
  • Prepare reports and briefing notes on issues related to maritime decarbonisation.

Support:

  • Support the with organising meetings and preparing minutes.
  • Perform other job related duties and tasks as assigned.

What you bring

  • Educational Background: Bachelors degree in Naval Architecture Maritime Engineering or a related field masters degree is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in the maritime sector or a related field including managing projects. Experience with performance monitoring.
  • Technical Expertise: An understanding of maritime technologies energy efficiency practices and regulatory frameworks.
  • Collaboration Skills: The ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Communication Skills: The ability to communicate with a variety of audiences including nonexperts.
  • Language Skills: Proficient in English and Greek.
  • Passionate about sustainability and committed to driving the transition to a lowcarbon maritime sector.
  • Experience with performance monitoring
