Job Description:
The Engineering Technician D will work closely with Systems Engineering and Program Management to support existing and new communications systems in the field and a lab environment. This maintenance lead position is responsible to performing maintenance on our communications and other equipment at sites within the Continental United States (CONUS) and candidates must be able and willing to climb tall structures with a load of up to 25 pounds while working at altitudes of 100 feet. This position requires travel 40 60 of the time to customer and subcontractor sites.
The employee will receive onthejob training as needed but will need to be comfortable working independently and in leading small teams 23 individuals). The successful candidate executes predefined maintenance tasks minimal supervision while coordinating the efforts of the maintenance team.
Essential Functions:
- Follow maintenance procedures in conformance with established processes and objectives
- Leads the planning and conduct of maintenance at customer sites
- Conducts debug operations on communication and other equipment at customer sites including AC/DC power generators cooling and other equipment
- Primary point of contact for collaboration with Systems Engineering to ensure equipment at sites is meeting specifications
- Sets up test apparatus and conducts tests of equipment following methods procedures standards and sequences
- Collects and evaluates functional data to conduct realtime tuning adjustments to products instruments or equipment
- Works with engineers in conducting experiments
- Uses hand and small power tools and various measuring and testing devices in performing job duties.
- Perform maintenance inspections and replace equipment on self supported communications equipment towers up to 100 feet.
- Conduct pre and post site visit activities (eg preparation after action reports and follow up)
- Serve as a rescue climber if and when needed
- Identify and assess possible safety hazards to personnel and equipment
- May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures
- Perform continuous improvement projects targeting waste affecting product quality cost and schedule or other items of value to the business
- Maintain professional standards of performance demeanor and judgment at all times as detailed in company policy and procedure
- Maintain high ethical standards
- Other responsibilities as assigned by Management
- Ability to obtain a US Security Security Clearance
- Must successfully complete tower climbing certification within 90 days of employment.
- Must be able to work outside of normal business hours to include nights and weekends when needed.
- Must be willing to serve in an oncall rotation
- Availability to travel 4060 of the time to customer and subcontractor sites in support of maintenance activities
- Problem solving skills and the ability to meet critical deadlines
Required Qualifications:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years postSecondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Secret DoD Security Clearance
- Previous knowledge of networking principles ethernet standards power systems cable testing and communications systems is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb tall structures with a load of up to 25 pounds while working at altitudes of 100 feet
- Ability to lift and carry materials that weigh up to 40 pounds for 12 hours per work day
- Ability to stand walk and climb for extended periods of time
- Ability to connect and disconnect various sizes and types of electronics connectors
