Job Description

The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West Great South Upper wheatbelt and Peel Regions of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of Services including: GP Clinics Primary Health Care Counselling NDIS and community host various programs. SWAMS has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.

About the role

The Data Officer is primarily responsible for ensuring the accuracy completeness and consistency of healthrelated data through data validation auditing and cleaning procedures and maintenance of the patient information system. The role is responsible for the secure handling and release of medical information (ROMI) to external stakeholders and maintenance of an internal ROMI register. A key aspect of the role involves effective communication with internal stakeholders to understand their health data requirements and provide valuable support in extracting interpreting and presenting relevant information. The role requires collaboration with the wider team to implement training programs to ensure high standards are met.

Support the implementation monitoring and evaluation of a data quality validation program.

  • Contribute to the data quality framework and protocols to drive system performance improvement identify data quality issues and address emerging trends.
  • Review data quality problems determine their origins in conjunction with data analysis to suggest and implement correction strategies.
  • Contribute to the management and maintenance of the patient information system and data quality enhancement strategies.
  • Facilitate training on systems that will be used by internal stakeholders.
  • Manage the release of medical information to external stakeholders.
  • Assist in preparing reports on data quality metrics progress and emerging trends.

About you

You will be someone who loves data and has exceptional conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data. You will also have:

  • Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills including demonstrated ability to undertake stakeholder consultation and negotiate effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated time management skills and ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Excellent attention to detail especially in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of data.
  • High level computer literacy skills and experience with Microsoft Office especially Excel.

It would be beneficial if you had a tertiary qualification in a relevant field or have had similar experience.
