General Summary of Position:
The University of Massachusetts Lowell is seeking a Visiting Faculty Lecturer for a 1year appointment renewable upon positive evaluation to join the faculty at the School of Criminology and Justice Studies (SCJS). The area of expertise is open but candidates with a scholarly focus in the areas of communitybased crime prevention criminal justice program evaluation or cybercrime will receive enhanced consideration. The teaching load is three courses per term with an added expectation of service to the School. Successful applicants will have completed a Ph.D. in criminology criminal justice or a related field. ABD candidates near degree completion will be considered. The start date for the position is September 2025. The position will remain open until filled.
The SCJS is housed within the Universitys College of Fine Arts Humanities and Social Sciences (FAHSS). The College is the largest unit of the University with 12 academic departments and over 220 fulltime faculty. The SCJS enrolls 500 undergraduates who major in Criminal Justice with an additional 300 Criminal Justice masters students and 45 doctoral students. The School offers an undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Science) in criminal justice a masters degree in criminal justice (Master of Arts) a masters degree in security studies (Master of Arts or Master of Science) five graduate certificate programs and a doctoral degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice. Our nationally ranked Ph.D. program has two tracks: Track 1 Criminology and Criminal Justice and Track 2 Criminology and Criminal Justice with a concentration in the study of terrorism. The School is also home to UMLs Legal Studies program.
The SCJS currently has 19 tenure track faculty members 4 fulltime teaching professors 1 visiting position and over 20 adjunct faculty members. Faculty members specialize in a wide range of scholarly topic areas including victimology policing institutional and community corrections organized crime terrorism violence the classification treatment and control of sex offenders substance abuse criminal justice technology and a variety of global justice issues. The Schools faculty collaborate with local state and federal criminal justice agencies while also working in partnership with other faculty and organizations globally.
