Position Overview
This position is accountable for the daily office administration the bureaus budget engineering research studies equipment and facilities resources other support functions necessary for optimum performance of all field engineering and maintenance operations and provides technical expertise on policies.
Essential Functions
- Negotiates appropriate municipal maintenance agreements and coordinates capital improvements at storage areas.
- Provides support and technical expertise and engineering judgements for field operation functions and policy interpretations for a wide variety of maintenancerelated engineering work.
- Prepares allots and maintains records of the bureaus budget preventative equipment maintenance and replacement of equipment and supplies necessary for accomplishing the districts Operations functions and assures continued training and research of new equipment for improvement.
- Supervises the districts Communication Center for prompt and effective reaction to natural or manmade disasters and emergencies including snow and ice control and the computerized Management Information System.
- Supervises trains and motivates subordinate personnel.
- Performs duties in accordance with departmental safety policies and is responsible for the safety of subordinate personnel. Performs all duties in a manner conductive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology preengineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS six years of engineering experience; OR Eight years of engineering experience.
Preferred Qualification
- Experience in highway construction and maintenance.
- Experience in procurement and budget administration.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.

- 24 hour on call availability.
- Successful completion of a background screening.

- This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act 5 ILCS 420/4A et seq. requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 1509 Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
