About Us
As Australias peak national organisation for the community HIV and LGBTIQA health response Health Equity Matters supports member organisations working with lesbian gay bisexual transgender and intersex communities people living with HIV sex workers people who use and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Through advocacy policy and health promotion it leads Australias effort to end HIV transmission and promote the health of its communities.
In the Asia Pacific region Health Equity Matters uses the same strengths to promote effective policy strengthen local community leadership and support communities in their work in HIV health and human rights.
The Opportunity
The Board is seeking to appoint a director with specific skills and experience in the area of strategic financial management and desirably international aid and development and multilateral donor financing (for example the Global Fund to Fight AIDS Tuberculosis and Malaria and the Australian Governments international development program administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
Ideally the person would be a qualified accountant (CA CPA) who can assist with building the capability of the Board and Health Equity Matters team domestically and internationally and assisting with the good governance of the organisation.
While being a director involves a number of obligations there are also benefits. Directors have a positive impact on the response to HIV in Australia Asia and the Pacific particularly as it affects Health Equity Matters communities (sex workers people who use people with HIV and First Nations communities) and the health LGBTIQA people across Australia. Directors also contribute to our strong relationships with community governments and agencies nationally and internationally.
Directors contribute to the success of Health Equity Matters members in all aspects of their work including the wider health wellbeing and human rights of LGBTIQA communities. They are also afforded the opportunity to develop themselves both professionally and personally while gaining valuable insights and unique experiences through their service to our communities.
