The Illinois Department of Agriculture is seeking individualsfor temporary employment not to exceed 6 months for the Illinois State Fair summer season. Temporary employees are needed for the following area: Buildings and Grounds. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone looking to work in a constantly changing fast paced environment. Successful candidates will be individuals who can work promptly and efficiently in order to maintain that the Illinois State Fair as well as nonfair events run effectively. Essential Functions
- Under immediate supervision and on a temporary basis for a period not to exceed 6 months performs a variety of unskilled manual labor and/or simple clerical duties
- Sweeps scrubs and polishes floors for maintenance of the public and nonpublic buildings on the Illinois State Fairgrounds.
- Moves heavy equipment and office equipment including chairs desks filing cabinets.
- Performs a variety of routine clerical duties.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of eight years of elementary school.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers elementary knowledge of materials tools equipment and practices essential to grounds and building maintenance.
- Prefers experience with the operation of simple equipment machinery and tools.
- Prefers experience with understanding and following oral and written instructions.
- Prefers experience with maintaining satisfactory working relationships with management other employees and members of the public.
- Prefers the possession of an appropriate and valid drivers license.
Conditions of Employment
- Must be able to work manual labor task for up to 10 hours a day or more.
- This position may require the position of a valid drivers license.
- This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor 20 CFR 404.1567(c). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
- This position may require the ability to complete a good deal of walking standing pushing and pulling.
