Job Description
Job Responsibilities
This is an Internal Posting only current SCDC employees will be considered.
- Serves as a Criminalist in SCDCs office of inspector general.
- Performs intelligence/technical analysis and raw analysis from all sources to determine criminal activities.
- Field and handle requests from federal state and local jurisdictions to determine criminal activities and provide timely collection and dissemination of information.
- Create reports and/or databases for the purpose of intelligence gathering and sharing needs of the division.
- Operates in a fastpaced teamoriented environments using a variety of databases.
- Works independently or as part of a team or task force to gather and review information related to specific criminal or administrative investigations to include but not limited to social media and security threat groups.
- Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing the criminal intelligence process including but not limited to text graphics images and other data may include sexually explicit and violent material.
- Analyzes various resources such as databases phone records finical records and digital files. Work independently or as part of a team or task force gather information related to specific criminal or administrative investigations and disseminate the information in an effective and efficient manner. Provides research analyzes and technical support to assigned intelligence team unit or as directed by immediate supervisor. This may include site visits to correctional institutions or other locations deemed necessary.
- Collects analyzes and presents synthesized findings as graphs charts keypoints or any format as directed by immediate supervisor. Prepares and maintains correspondence suspense files and reports as directed. Must be able to effectively communicate with subordinates peers supervisors and others both verbally and in writing.
- Reviews and documents all intelligence pertaining to inmates and staff from sources within and outside SCDC. Responsible for the exploitation and analyzes of various technical platforms and digital devices as directed by the Division of Intelligence & Forensic Analysis and immediate supervisor.
- Willingly performs duties as the oncall criminalist for the assigned week or representative for the Division of Intelligence and Forensic Analysis during an emergency must be prepared to report for duty anytime during the oncall week for urgent matters.
- Willingly performs other assigned duties with professionalism and due diligence in a timely manner.

State of South CarolinaMinimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and experience as a criminalist.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).- A high school diploma and experience as a criminalist.
- A bachelors degree in a relevant field may be substituted for the required experience.
- Six 6 months of relevant experience preferred.
- Acceptable bachelors degree areas include physical or technical science engineering political or social science history criminal justice business intelligence and/or national security studies or relevant field.
This position requires travel among assigned facilities/locations within the state. Some overnight travel for emergency situations or to attend training may be required. Applicants are required submit a resume with application.
Preferred Qualifications
Six 6 months of relevant experience preferred.
