Description of Job


Position duties:
  • Extract and purify DNA from biological control agents utilize PCR to amplify diagnostic sequences such as the COI gene send out DNA fragments for sequencing analyze DNA sequences to verify taxonomic status of biocontrol agents. Collect parasitoids of biocontrol agents extract and test DNA for barcode sequences for use in identification. Test biocontrol agents for the presence of pathogens using PCR inform project managers of agent status regarding taxonomy and presence of pathogens. Work closely with faculty from Colorado Mesa University to prepare for technology transfer of molecular diagnostic methods to the CDA Palisade Insectary.
  • Work closely with Insectary personnel to set up a small molecular diagnostics program suitable for specimen identification as well as identification of pathogens associated with biocontrol agents. This will be accomplished primarily with PCR.
  • Assist with sample preparation and specimen collection at the Insectary.
