Job Description

Position Summary

The Fowler College of Business at San Diego State University is seeking a dynamic and studentfocused Graduate Programs Advisor to support our growing portfolio of graduate business programs. As a key member of the Graduate Programs team youll play an essential role in advising prospective and current students guiding them through every step of their academic journey. Key Responsibilities:

  • Graduate Student Advising: Provide comprehensive academic advising for incoming continuing and inactive (Leave of Absence) students across MBA MSA MSIS and other graduate programs ensuring they stay on track toward graduation.
  • Recruitment and Outreach: Actively recruit prospective students and provide guidance on admission and degree requirements. Collaborate closely with the FCB Marketing & Communications team to engage prospective students through CRM systems and social media.
  • Application Review and Coordination: Assist in the review and evaluation of applications including degree audits and core requirement waivers. Coordinate with other Graduate Programs staff to ensure accurate and timely processing of applications.
  • Student Support and Program Development: Make informed decisions on student advising issues class selection and program policies. Lead efforts in developing and continuously improving advising resources and programming for new and continuing students.

Position Information

  • This is a fulltime 1.0 timebase) benefits eligible permanent/probationary position.
  • This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but may vary based on operational needs.
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The Fowler College of Business offers a variety of programs including an undergraduate and graduate degree in business administration and specialized masters degree programs. The college also houses several centers: the Lavin Entrepreneurship Center the Corky McMillin Center for Real Estate the Wendy Gillespie Center for Advancing Global Business the Corporate Governance Institute the Institute for Inclusion and Diversity the Center for Integrated Marketing Communication the James Silberrad Brown Center for Artificial Intelligence and the Aztec Consulting Center which are critical for the implementation of its strategic plan.

FCB is an instructional division of San Diego State University administered by the Dean. The Deans Office is responsible for the creation implementation and continued support of the instructional research and development processes in the College.

The FCB Graduate Programs is responsible for implementing all policies procedures and decisions regarding currently enrolled FCB Graduate students 550 and the recruitment retention and graduation of FCB Graduate students to the oncampus programs. Graduate Programs provide and coordinate all academic and informational advising for prospective and current students in the FCB Graduate Programs. Staff in the unit are under the supervision and strategic direction of the Graduate Program Director. Staff include:

  • One parttime Director Graduate Programs
  • One fulltime Lead Graduate Programs Advisor
  • One fulltime Graduate Programs Recruiter/Advisors
  • One fulltime Administrative Support Coordinator
  • 23 Part Time Graduate Assistants

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a fouryear college or university in one of the behavioral sciences public or business administration or a jobrelated field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown below may be substituted for the required education on a yearforyear basis.

Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A masters degree in a jobrelated field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5083 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education experience and qualifications the candidate brings to the position internal equity and the hiring departments fiscal resources.
