Job Description

Position: Visitor Services Representative

Reports to: Visitor Services Lead

Direct Reports: 0

Division: Learning & Engagement

FLSA Status: PartTime Hourly NonExempt

Compensation: $24 $25 per hour

Work Hours: 20 hours per week onsite: Thursday 12:00 8:00 pm) Saturday and Sunday 10:30 am 5:00 pm) with the option for occasional additional shifts.


Position Summary

The Frye Art Museum seeks a positive dynamic and adaptable team player to join our Learning & Engagement team as a parttime Visitor Services Representative (the VSR). The VSR is responsible for creating a warm and welcoming customer experience for all museum visitors including firsttime guests members donors and program participants. As a key member of the frontline team the VSR is often the first personvisitors encounter and plays an essential role in setting a positive tone for each visitors museum experience.


The VSR is passionate about hospitality and communitybuilding. The VSR delights guests and supports their needs in the moment while also providing information and promoting museum programs that foster deeper engagement and encourage return visits.

Founded in 1952 the Frye is Seattles only free art museum bringing together art and new ideas within a stunning Olson Sundberg Kundigdesigned building in historic First Hill.

About Learning & Engagement at the Frye

The Frye Art Museums Learning & Engagement team creates dynamic and reciprocal programs that connect artists students teachers and community members. We bring people together to learn through experience connecting art inquiry and wellbeing.


Our programs engage people of all ages through ingallery discussions handson artmaking artist talks panel discussions and interdisciplinary performances. We are committed to advancing accessibility intergenerational exchange and lifelong learning across the museum.


The division encompasses four departments: Creative Aging Inclusive Learning Public Programs and Visitor Services. Together we collaborate across exhibitions and programs to place learning and engagement at the heart of a cohesive visitorcentered experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome engage and orient museum visitors serving as a knowledgeable ambassador by providing information about the museums current and upcoming exhibitions programs policies and amenities including the Museum Store and Caf membership and donations and museum architecture and history.
  • Address visitor questions and concerns with courtesy inclusivity and sensitivity in alignment with the Fryes commitment to diversity equity inclusion accessibility and belonging (DEIAB).
  • Respond to visitor member and donor inquiries in person by phone and via email; resolve issues independently when appropriate or escalate and coordinate with colleagues in Learning & Engagement or other departments as needed.
  • Support the collection of visitor demographic information record audience feedback and assist with audience evaluation initiatives.
  • Understand and effectively communicate museum protocols key messages and safety policies coordinating as needed with Learning & Engagement Security Communications and other departments.
  • Promote and facilitate patron registrations membership sales renewals upgrades and donations.
  • Maintain the visitor services desk in a clean organized and welcoming manner restocking brochures exhibition guides and other materials as needed.
  • Participate in museumwide trainings and initiativesto contribute to an inclusive environment for visitors and implement relevant strategies and best practices in daily interactions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Visitor Services Lead to support the overall goals events and activities of Learning & Engagement.

Desired Qualifications Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity equity inclusion accessibility and belonging with a motivation to support access and engage with diverse audiences.
  • Interest in and willingness to learn about the museums collection exhibitions and programs; able to represent the museum with professionalism and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to work independently while fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong organizational time management and problemsolving skills; capable of prioritizing tasks quickly and thoughtfully.
  • Demonstrated curiosity creativity and a proactive approach to learning.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and a familiarity with database systems.
  • Fluency in English; additional language proficiency is a plus.

Required Education/Experience

  • 1 years of customer services experience with a demonstrated ability to make people feel seen respected and warmly welcomed.
  • Proven reliability and punctuality in a teamoriented role.
  • Strong interpersonal and active listening skills.
  • Demonstrated flexibility positivity and ability to remain calm under pressure with a sense of humor focus and friendliness.
  • High School diploma or equivalent experience preferred.

Work Conditions

Work areas are inside in a climatecontrolled environment with light background noise. Work is occasionally performed at other indoor and outdoor event sites. Shift times may vary to meet the museums requirement to staff the facilities at all hours. Work may require weekend hours and extended periods of attendance at museum events.


Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions

  • Ability to converse and exchange information for effective communication.
  • Remaining in a stationary location standing or sitting and occasionally moving through the museum which is wheelchair accessible.
  • Frequently move and transport objects weighing up to 50 pounds. This may require positioning self to move and remove objects from low shelves.
  • Regular operation of computer systems and other office equipment such as phones and printers.
