Position Summary
Why its a great opportunity:Start your career with Pierce County as a temporary extra hire Maintenance Worker with the Traffic maintenance team! YOU are an integral part of our team performing various maintenance functions across Pierce County. Some of those tasks include flagging cleaning landscaping construction work around manholes concrete work and maintaining road signs and lights. As an extra hire maintenance worker you will enjoy a regular schedule Monday Friday with occasional overtime. You can count on Pierce County to provide PPE tools and a safe place to work. You will work out of South Puyallup various places in Pierce County.

This is a physical job in all kinds of weather so it takes strength and commitment to be successful. This position requires daily driving of a Pierce County vehicle therefore a SAFE driving record is a must.

Core Daily Responsibilities:
- Set up MUTCD compliant work zones for road maintenance crews.
- Serve as Washington state certified flagger safely guiding and directing traffic through work zones.
- Provide manual labor/support for traffic operations programs including pavement markings raised pavement markers roadway striping traffic sign maintenance and other duties as assigned.
- Maintain and safely operate small power tools and landscape equipment.
- Work is performed outside sometimes under adverse weather conditions.
- Work reporting location may vary depending on job site location.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- One year of experience in construction or equipment operation or experience performing skilled or semiskilled labor such as traffic operations road maintenance landscaping or heavy construction. Additional education or training may substitute for the recruitment requirement.
