Job Description

The Utility Painter is responsible for preparing all assigned vessels and parts for the refinishing and reassembly process and supports other BETA painters in producing high quality paint jobs. The Utility Painter will paint military vessels custom vessels and will occasionally prepare and paint commercial products. Our Painters work in a team environment. Work hours are Monday Friday 7:00am3:30pm with occasional overtime required and occasional Saturday.

Job Duties:

  • Complete all paint preparation processes for vessels according to company specifications using chemical bath process and manual processes (Dip Porch)
  • Remove grease dirt paint or rust from equipment surfaces in preparation for paint application using abrasives solvents brushes blowtorches washing tanks or sandblasters
  • Sand equipment surfaces between coats of paint or primer to remove flaws and enhance adhesion for subsequent coats
  • Select and mix paint according to company requirements and match colors of paint following specified color charts stir and thin paints using spatulas or power mixing equipment
  • Pour paint into appropriate spray guns and adjust nozzles and paint mixes for proper paint flow and coating thickness
  • Spray prepared surfaces with specified amounts of primers and decorative or finish coatings
  • Monitor painting operations to identify flaws such as blisters or streaks and correct their causes
  • Allow the sprayed product to dry and touch up any missed spots
  • Apply rustresistant undercoats and caulk and seal seams
  • Apply primer over any repairs made to equipment surfaces
  • Adjust controls on infrared ovens heat lamps portable ventilators or exhaust units to speed the drying of vehicles between coats
  • Fill small dents or scratches with body fillers and smooth surfaces to prepare vehicles for painting
  • Apply designs lettering or other identifying or decorative items to finished products using paint brushes or paint sprayers
  • Paint by hand areas that cannot be reached with a spray gun or those that need retouching using brushes
  • Disassemble clean and reassemble sprayers and power equipment using solvents wire brushes and cloths for cleaning duties
  • Follow vendor procedures to maintain all tools and equipment including maintenance of paint booth and booth filters and maintain a clean and organized workspace
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions and coaching from Supervisor and Lead Painter
  • Adhere to all requirements for hazardous waste disposal participate in annual training
  • Operate paint booth controls change filters as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. Will work in Assembly function when needed.



Requirements
  • Education and Experience Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous experience with industrial automotive or aviation painting helpful
  • Familiar with proper use of epoxy primer and polyurethane single state paint
  • Working knowledge of current painting equipment and techniques
  • Ability to work in nontemperaturecontrolled environment with high noise levels and with hazardous materials and equipment
  • Working knowledge of hand tools
  • Able to read tape measure and blueprint drawings
  • Ability to work in nontemperaturecontrolled environment with high noise levels and with hazardous materials and equipment
  • Familiar with industrial safety environment and use of common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes safety glasses gloves hearing protection respirators and hard hats (BETA will provide or reimburse)
  • Physical Requirements using hands to handle control or feel objects and tools lift and/or move materials up to 50 pounds independently. Able to climb bend stoop and reach. Able to use respirator while painting. Able to distinguish colors.
