Job Description

Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multistep progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and the Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason the classification existsis to oversee a citywide safety and training program. The employee isresponsible for reviewing and analyzing data to develop implement andevaluate policies and programs to reduce accidents injuries and liabilitiesamong employees performing various functions. The work responsibilities includedeveloping and administering safety training and related programs for Cityemployees conducting safety inspections investigating vehicle accidentsproperty damage and personal injuries that involve or directly relate to theCity operations supervising assigned staff and several functions of the safetyand claims office and negotiating settlement claims including coordinatingwith Risk Management and/or the Citys legal staff for negotiations. Workinvolves considerable contact with employees supervisors and citizens ininvestigating accidents inspecting vehicles and ensuring compliance withsafety policies and procedures. The employee reports to the Director of RiskManagement.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have a Bachelors degree inBusiness Administration Communications Public Administration Human ResourceManagement or a closely related field and at least 5 years of work experiencein the areas of workers compensation employee safety and employee trainingrelated to loss prevention and control insurance claim processing adjustingpersonal injury claims property loss and damage claims or analyzing moderatelycomplex data to draw logical conclusions and recommendations.

NOTE: Qualifying education training and experiencethat provide the requisite knowledge skills and abilities to perform the jobwill be considered.

Special Requirements

Must possess a State of Alabama Class D driverslicense or be able to obtain one within six 6 months. Must have and maintaina driving record which is consistent with the City driving policy. Ability torespond after hours as needed to investigate serious accidents. May conduct field visits to investigate accidentsand injuries and administer training programs.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one 1 vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with theCity of Montgomery Risk Management Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based on education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire. For this reason applicants are urged to fill in the online application form and supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held the dates they held them where and exactly what their duties were. If more than five 5 qualified applications are received the supplemental questionnaire will be used to rank applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five 5 or less qualified applicants they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
