Core Faculty North Side Milwaukee Teaching Health Centers Family Medicine Residency Program @ Outreach Community Health Centers Milwaukee WI

CLINICIAN EDUCATOR PATHWAY DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY & COMMUNITY MEDICINEMEDICAL COLLEGE OF WISCONSIN

This positionwilllead a groundbreaking initiative to address the opioid crisis in Milwaukee WI. This role involves directing the Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program which prioritizes the delivery of lowthreshold Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) services at the North Side Milwaukee Health Center and inpatient settings such as Froedtert Hospital.

This position will spearhead workforce development to alleviate the shortage of clinicians equipped to treat opioid use disorders with a specific focus on health equity community partnerships and sustainable medical education.This role will involve significant teaching advisingfellowsresidentsand medical students andparticipatingin scholarly activities. The Fellowship Director will ensure the programs compliance with ACGME requirementswhile fostering an environment of clinical and educational excellence.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

Program Leadership & Development:
1 Direct & develop the Addiction Medicine Fellowship ensuring alignment with ACGME standards and institutional missions
2 Design and implement a fellowship curriculum that emphasizes lowthreshold MOUD services addiction care mental health services and primary care particularly for vulnerable populations in Milwaukees most affected communities
3 Integrate social determinants of health into the fellowships approach ensuring that care delivery reduces health disparities & advances health equity in underserved areas

Clinical & Teaching Responsibilities:
1 Providefull scopeaddiction medicine care and broader primary care services to peoplewho use (PWUD) at the North Side Milwaukee Health Center as well assuperviseinpatient consultation services at Froedtert Hospital
2 Precept & mentor fellows residents & medical students developing their clinical & behavioral health skills in addiction medicine and fostering a compassionate biopsychosocial approach to care
3 Teach & supervise fellows in their inpatient rounds & outpatient care ensuring the program meets the educational goals of producing skilled knowledgeable addiction medicine clinicians

Community Engagement & Partnerships:
1 Build and strengthen formal partnerships with key community organizations (e.g.: United Community Center Meta House Veterans Administration) to create a collaborative network that extends addiction care beyond traditional healthcare settings
2 Engage in communitybased initiatives to improve access to care for PWUDparticularly in the53204 zipcode and develop programs that address housing peersupport counseling group therapy and recovery services
3 Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve health outcomes for patientsreduce emergency serviceutilization and lower readmission rates

Scholarly & Administrative Duties:
1 Foster a culture of scholarly activity among fellows and faculty promoting researchpublications and quality improvement projects that address the opioid crisis andaddiction medicine practices
2 Ensure the programcomplies withall ACGME reporting and institutional policiesincludingtimelydocumentation and verification of fellows education and performance
3 Oversee faculty development and approve or remove physicians and nonphysicianeducators based on performance and contribution to the educational mission
4 Pursue grant funding opportunities to further the development of the primary careaddiction medicine enterprise at the forest home healthcenter

Medical Education & Training Development:
1 Advance medical education by incorporating a biopsychosocial model of addiction care ensuring fellows are trained to address the complex biopsychosocial aspects ofaddiction
2 Collaborate with faculty to develop fellows as skilled educators preparing them to teach in or initiate addiction medicine fellowship programs in their future careers
3 Lead efforts to destigmatize addiction care through educational initiatives that include the lived experiences of PWUD promoting empathy and comprehensive care models

Position Requirements:

Required:

  • MD or DO (foreign medical equivalent)

  • Graduation from an accredited Family Medicine residency program

  • Board certification/board eligibility in Family Medicine

  • WI medical licensure (or eligiblility for same)

  • Certification in Medically Assisted Treatment of Opioid disorders

Preferred:

  • Board certification/board eligibility in Addicition Medicine
  • Addiction medicine &curriculumdevelopment leadership experience with a commitment to improving health equity reducing health disparities andaddressing social determinants of health & communitybased addiction care
  • Strong addiction medicine & family medicine procedural skills

  • Experience in providing prenatal care to PWUD with the opportunity toparticipatein a multidisciplinary clinic designed to improve the care of this vulnerable patientpopulation

  • Demonstrated ability to lead interdisciplinary teams in clinical educational & community settings

  • Experience in scholarly activities & advancing medical education in addiction medicine

  • Strong communication& interpersonal skills with the ability to handle challenging situations calmly & professionally
