Salary Information
Compensation plans are based on a multistep progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.
**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations**
Nature of Work
The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform highly skilled work in the installation and maintenance of electronic traffic signal systems street lighting systems and fiber optic communication systems. Work requires practical knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the National Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and involves the application of electrical and electronic knowledge and skills in the field and in the shop. Primary work responsibilities may include: installing electrical traffic control cabinets traffic signals and vehicle detection systems; repairing traffic control cabinets traffic signals and vehicle detection systems; performing regular and preventative maintenance on traffic signal and street lighting systems; serving as lead worker and/or crew leader; operating bucket trucks backhoes and trenchers; and performing manual labor. The Traffic Control Technician II is distinguished from the Traffic Control Technician I in that the Technician IIs perform the more advancedlevel complex installation and maintenance duties serve as team leaders for work crews and train less experienced workers on advanced level tasks. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Traffic Control Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have a High School diploma or GED and a minimum of two years experience in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices.
NOTE: Qualifying education training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Special Requirements
Must have and maintain a valid drivers license and insurable driving record. Must have (or obtain within the sixmonth probationary period) a Commercial Drivers License Class B (Airbrakes). Must be on emergency standby duty afterhours on a scheduled rotating basis.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Physical ability to bend stoop crouch squat kneel and work in restricted and/or confined spaces for extended periods of time (up to ten hours).Physical ability to lift or carry heavy objects up to 50lbs. for a short duration ability to work from ladders and bucket (of bucket truck) at heights up to 100 feet for extended periods of ability to distinguish between colors as needed to differentiate between color coded wires and signal lights in order to make repairs.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed with exposure to both low and highvoltage electrical outputs. Work is performed in a variety of uncontrolled work environments including but not limited to: at heights up to 100 feet above ground in unkempt areas with tall weeds and exposure to local wildlife and in close proximity to heavy traffic traveling at speeds exceeding 65 miles per hour. Work is performed in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements to include extreme heat cold rain and lightning. Work will require some overtime night weekend and holiday hours as well as afterhours oncall duty.
