Job Description

Occupational Therapist

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW:

By 2025 KIPP DC will build upon two decades of proven results to develop into a more impactful innovative and inclusive school system that provides joyful identityaffirming learning experiences so that all students and alumni achieve extraordinary outcomes. We are a network of eighteen schools educating nearly 7000 students and employing 1200 teachers leaders and staff members dedicated to our mission. As part of the KIPP networks 255 schools we share best practices and innovations with our peers across the city and country.

We are seeking an occupational therapist who is passionate about educational equity driven by student and family relationships and provides intentional support for their students.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

KIPP DC occupational therapists are responsible for delivering effective highquality interventions that are data driven. In addition the occupational therapist will be responsible for managing stakeholders throughout the special education process. The occupational therapist is an exempt role and will report directly to the student support campus director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Service Delivery: 70

  • Provide targeted evidencebased therapeutic intervention to facilitate student participation and occupational performance within the school environment
  • Develop occupationally based intervention plans based on student needs and evaluation results
  • Conduct occupational evaluations

Stakeholder Management: 20

  • Participate in case conferences to discuss student goals and plans
  • Collaborate with the student support services team to ensure understanding of student occupational performance strengths and needs through evaluation educational program planning and service deliver
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results integrate findings with other disciplines offer recommendations and develop individualized education plans and intervention plans to achieve IEP goals
  • Provide continuing education and inservice training for educational personnel parents and community based service providers
  • Serve as a fulltime and engaged member of KIPP DCs staff including activities like attendance to teacher/staff meetings accompanying students on field lessons assisting with student recruitment and enrichment activities and working with other staff members to ensure fulfillment of KIPP DCs mission.

School and Community Support: 10

  • Implements the schoolwide student management policies within classrooms and everywhere on campus
  • Exhibits positive rapport with students
  • Creates and fosters a positive learning environment
  • Establishes and maintains strong communication lines with all parents
  • Available for Open Houses ParentTeacher Conferences and other events involving parents outside of normal operating hours

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors degree (required)

Candidates should have successfully completed and graduated from an accredited occupational therapy professional program recognized by NBCOT and have completed all fieldwork requirements (required)

Two years of experience as an occupational therapist preferably in school system or other pediatric practice setting (preferred)

Commitment to working with limited access to quality educational opportunities (required)

Experience working in a public school (preferred)

Experience working in an urban school (preferred)

Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work as a member of a team

A deep commitment to develop and contribute to a community of educators

Flexible and enthusiastic
