The Position. We seek faculty with a strong record of college teaching including demonstrated versatility in teaching various courses including but not limited to the areas of computer programming such as Python and R health application development health data management and SQL Machine Learning Natural Language Processing Clinical Decision Support Systems and Capstone Project Mentoring. The faculty member will also participate in recruiting and reviewing applications for graduate student admissions attending monthly health informatics meetings and be active in health informatics program improvement and curriculum development.
Qualifications. The ideal candidate will have an earned doctorate (PhD or MD) in Health Informatics Computer Science Software Engineering Information Science Data Science or other relevant STEM discipline with strong technical application development and R or Python skills. Applicants with a terminal MS degree strong technical programming AI/ML/NLP skills and a strong record of relevant teaching experience will be considered. We seek enthusiastic dedicated Health Informatics professionals with skills in explaining Health Information Technology Machine Learning and Data Mining. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with credentials and experience. This is not a remote position and requires inperson teaching.

The Program. The Health Informatics program from Temple Universitys College of Public Health offers the Master of Science in Health Informatics the Doctor of Philosophy in Health Informatics and the Health Informatics Graduate Certificate. Health informatics is the application of information technology to healthcare professions to create tools and procedures that facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This field includes the knowledge skills and tools that enable information to be collected managed used and shared to support the delivery of healthcare and promote health. The masters program trains students to create health data systems and processes to improve healthcare delivery patient care and population health outcomes. The doctoral program focuses on interprofessional education and practice research and is designed for students looking to pursue a career in academia or research in health informatics innovation. The graduate certificate teaches students the practical skills they need to advance in their current career in healthcare or enter the rapidly expanding field of health informatics.
Department and Programs. The Department of Health Services Administration and Policy is comprised of accredited academic programs including BS in Health Information Management MPH in Health Policy and Management MS in Health Informatics PhD in Health Policy and Health Services Research and PhD in Health Informatics. The Department offers graduate certificates in Health Informatics Public Health Law Research and Clinical Health Services Research. Faculty are engaged in teaching research and entrepreneurial activities with about 300 students. The Department contributes to the Colleges BS in Public Health and BS in Health Professions. Research emphases are in the areas of the impact of laws and policies on health quality of care healthcare financing disparities and access to care public health law evolving methodologies for big data analytics and the impact of health information technologies.
Dr. Huanmei Wu an accomplished biomedical informatics researcher with expertise in big data and technology joined Temple as Department Chair in July 2020. With extensive experience in faculty and student recruitment and academic program development Dr. Wu is leading the department established in 2015 through an exciting transformation. The departments research and educational programs integrate health informatics health services research and health policy and management by bringing innovations and applications of big data analytics machine learning and artificial intelligence to healthcare advancing healthcare and policy through digital health technologies mobile health and health tool inventions.
The College. Devoted to an interprofessional environment for education research and practice the CEPHaccredited College of Public Health consists of academic units in the public health disciplines health professions and the School of Social Work enrolling approximately 4200 students. The colleges research aims to understand the fundamental factors that affect the health and wellbeing of individuals and populations by examining health problems through foundational research policy and practice and the development and dissemination of evidencebased interventions. We focus on social determinants of health and social justice with strengths in cancer obesity HIV substance abuse mental illness mobility research cognition and language developmental disabilities organ transplantation and aging. College research is funded by the National Institutes of Health Department of Defense National Science Foundation Gates Foundation other major private foundations and state and federal agencies. The college is home to an Office for Community Engaged Research and Practice the Center for Obesity Research and Education and the Collaborative on Community Inclusion. The Office of Clinical Affairs and Interprofessional Education leads our clinical activities including the COVID19 RapidVax effort and forwardlooking interprofessional education within the college and throughout the university. The college is staffed by a robust complement of seasoned professionals including offices of Communications and Marketing Information Technology Sponsored Research and Academic Affairs.
