Job Description
Summary/objective
The Director of Health and Counseling and Chief Wellness Officer oversees all activities and services related to student physical and mental health at Randolph College. This includes direct clinical service administrative leadership and coordination of care with various departments to promote holistic student wellbeing. The role involves supervising the health and counseling staff managing operational needs and providing strategic direction for physical and mental health services. The director serves as a member of the Student Affairs Leadership team which fosters crossdivisional and institutional collaborations. Hence providing oversight of individual and group counseling health services health prevention programs and human growth and development activities. These services are designed to support students in a thriving campus life environment and contribute to their holistic education and success.
Additionally the Director will execute strategic initiatives related to integrated care through a community approach to wellness. They will work to identify and implement best practices for the development implementation and evaluation of student health and wellness initiatives. They will also facilitate and engage in staff education and development regarding shared values and approaches within a multidisciplinary healthcare setting.
The successful candidate must be selfmotivated strategicminded and teamfocused and demonstrate a culture of respect and appreciation for overseeing a highly dedicated staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Responsibilities (will depend on certification of selected candidate)
- Provide individual group family and relationship counseling to students or administer health services including assessment treatment and referrals.
- Ensure timely and appropriate clinical documentation in the electronic health record system.
- Provide crisis intervention and emergency response for students in need.
- Oversee psychoeducational programming outreach and training for students faculty and staff.
- Maintain compliance with ethical standards from professional organizations such as NASW ACA and APA.
- Collaborate with external providers and community health resources.
- Supervise clinical and administrative staff including licensed professionals and interns.
- Provide consultation to faculty and staff regarding student health concerns.
- Integrate holistic wellness approaches to encourage lifelong wellness habits among students.
- Lead the transition to a fully comprehensive and integrated student wellness model.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Develop and implement policies related to student health and counseling services.
- Maintain compliance with institutional state and federal health regulations.
- Oversee recordkeeping confidentiality and retention policies for student records.
- Participate in the CARE Team and Special Accommodations Committee.
- Conduct training and orientation programs for students and staff.
- Maintain contracts and relationships with external health service providers.
- Lead efforts in assessment and continuous improvement of services.
- Ensure a safe and welcoming environment for students accessing health and counseling services.
- Partner with faculty and staff to develop student wellness programs that extend beyond traditional healthcare models incorporating wellness education and prevention strategies.
- Oversee personnel recruitment training supervision and performance evaluations.
- Develop and oversee health and wellness outreach programming including educational initiatives related to substance use sexual health nutrition and mental health awareness.
- Ensure effective and confidential use of the electronic medical records system.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provide oversight for clinical and administrative staff within the Health and Counseling Center.
- Ensure compliance with licensure and training requirements for counseling staff and interns.
- Conduct performance evaluations and professional development activities.
OnCall and Emergency Management Responsibilities:
- Manage the Colleges Counselor oncall process including training and supporting counselors.
- Serve oncall for assistance with emergency medical services as needed.
- Participate in the Threat Assessment Team

- Ability to oversee and execute strategic planning in a multidisciplinary healthcare setting.
- Experience in budget and personnel management in a healthcare environment.
- Understanding of health care confidentiality risk management and legal practices.

Job Qualifications and Requirements:
- Advanced degree in public health social work psychology medicine and/or business administration.
- Must be currently licensed and eligible for licensing in Virginia to practice.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrates preparedness for the administrative responsibilities of the position including familiarity with the delivery of medical and mental health services.
- Expertise in working with young adults presenting diverse health and mental health concerns.
- Experience in administrative leadership and supervision of healthcare professionals.
- Leadership supervisory and managerial skills including oversight of financial resources and budgetary planning.
- Experience with program development outcomes assessment and the use of data to enhance services and make decisions.
- Strong consultation skills with the ability to assess situations and recommend appropriate responses.
- Ability to perform under stress when confronted with unusual or emergency situations. Proficiency in crisis intervention and risk assessment.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills that exemplify collaboration communication action and advocacy.
Working Conditions:
Typically working inperson in a normal office environment with clinical settings. The position requires a full range of body motion including reaching stooping kneeling climbing and walking. May be standing/walking/sitting for extended periods of time. Occasional lifting (up to 15 pounds). May travel some locally. Potential for professional development opportunities. Nights and weekend work occasionally required.
