Job Description

My client is a niche consulting firm operating at the intersection of environment industry communities and government. With a strong reputation for strategic problemsolving and regulatory expertise they provide highlevel support on complex environmental and permitting challenges across a range of sectors. They are 100 Canadian owned and operated. They are known for guiding projects through critical milestones they offer tailored solutions that integrate regulatory strategy Indigenous engagement environmental management and longterm planning. The firm is experiencing rapid growth and is expanding its team to meet increasing demand for its services across Canada.

I am seeking an experienced and driven Senior Human Environment Lead to lead and deliver highimpact Indigenous engagement and socioeconomic assessments for major resource development projects across Canada. This is a leadershiplevel opportunity to shape inclusive and regulatorycompliant practices that support meaningful engagement and positive community outcomes.

Remote / WFH / Hybrid: 100 Remote anywhere in British Columbia

Travel:Minimal

Salary:$120k $170k plus health benefits RRSP matching annual bonuses (The final salary will reflect the qualifications relevant experience expertise and professional designations that each candidate brings to the role. Individuals who offer additional strengths or bring exceptional value to the team will be considered for compensation beyond the stated range as our client recognizes and rewards unique contributions.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Delivery & Leadership

  • Lead the design and of Indigenous and stakeholder engagement programs across regulated impact assessments (provincial federal territorial).
  • Oversee the development of socioeconomic and communitybased studies including desktop research interviews surveys and field engagement.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients and Indigenous communities fostering relationships grounded in respect transparency and collaboration.

Regulatory Strategy & Technical Expertise

  • Provide strategic advice on engagement approaches that align with Canadian regulatory requirements including IAAC UNDRIP and provincial legislation.
  • Guide the assessment of project impacts on sociocultural socioeconomic and Indigenous interests integrating traditional knowledge with western science where appropriate.
  • Develop mitigation benefit enhancement reconciliation action plans and longterm monitoring programs.
  • Maintain a high level of expertise in Canadian federal and provincial environmental legislation policies and impact assessment processes.

Mentorship & Team Development

  • Provide mentorship and oversight to intermediate and junior staff in Human Environment and Indigenous Engagement practices.
  • Support capacitybuilding within teams and communities by fostering inclusive and culturally safe collaboration environments.

Performance & Impact

  • Deliver projects on time and on budget while maintaining high standards of quality cultural competency and client satisfaction.
  • Track engagement metrics consultation records and socioeconomic indicators to assess progress and inform decisionmaking.
  • Contribute to ESG reporting and Reconciliation Action planning for client organizations.

Business Development & Strategy

  • Lead proposal writing and client pitches related to Human Environment scopes.
  • Identify and pursue new opportunities in the regulatory and engagement landscape.

Success in This Role Looks Like:

  • Projects delivered with recognized excellence in community engagement regulatory compliance and Indigenous collaboration.
  • Strong trustbased relationships with Indigenous Nations and stakeholders.
  • Measurable contributions to client ESG goals and Reconciliation initiatives.
  • A highfunctioning team supported through mentorship and knowledgesharing.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Indigenous engagement sociocultural or socioeconomic impact assessment and regulatory strategy.
  • Candidates must have proven experience leading or supportingimpact assessments under federal and/or provincial regulatory frameworks.
  • Extensive experience working in the mining energy and natural resources sectors is required.
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Environmental Studies Geography Sociology Indigenous Studies or related discipline.
  • Proven experience working with Indigenous Nations regulators and industry on large resource projects.
  • Deep understanding of traditional land use cultural heritage and Indigenous Knowledge systems.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and provincial environmental legislation and permitting requirements.
  • Demonstrated understanding of UNDRIP TRC Calls to Action and the Duty to Consult.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills; able to develop materials and lead meetings that bridge diverse knowledge systems.
  • Proficient in MS Office; knowledge of GIS qualitative data analysis tools or ESG reporting platforms is an asset.
  • French and/or Indigenous language fluency is an asset.
