Description:
The Department of Visual Arts & Music at Columbia College invites applications from forwardthinking and dynamic educators and design professionals to join our team as a fulltime Assistant Professor in Art specializing in Graphic Design and Illustration. This 9month faculty position begins Fall 2025 at our Columbia Missouri campus.
Teaching and some service work will be required. Specific courses may include Graphic Design I Graphic Design II/III (a stacked course) Web Design I/II (stacked course) Corporate Identity Typography and Illustration. Service work will include attending department meetings and events (may require occasional evening and/or weekend commitments) and mentoring 12 senior design students with their capstone projects.
Columbia College is known for its small class sizes which enrich teaching and mentoring experiences. The successful candidate will join faculty and staff committed to innovative studentcentered pedagogy at an arts and sciences teaching institution located in Columbia MO one of Americas most livable small cities. The Department of Visual Arts and Music currently has six other fulltime faculty. This position will support students pursuing degrees in the BA in Graphic Design BA in Art and the Bachelor of Fine Arts.
Qualifications:
At least a Masters in Graphic Design (or closely related field) is required. Prior higher education teaching experience is preferred. The position requires an ability to effectively teach undergraduate courses a commitment to studentcentered learning excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a willingness to use various instructional technologies. Additionally experience developing online courses and utilizing distance education technologies is highly desirable.
