JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Program Supervisor Youth Emergency Services

Employment Classification: Fulltime; Salary Exempt

Reports to: Manager of Dropin Services

Department: Programs


Program Summary: Through the Orangewood Resource Center (ORC) and in collaboration with external partners the Homeless Youth Emergency Services and Housing (YE) Program is established to provide a range of housing options that meet the needs of youth experiencing homelessness and to provide crisis intervention and stabilization services so that the immediate crisis these youth face can be resolved and they can focus on their goals. The (XH) program will support transitional housing shortterm housing assistance and supportive services including followup services that move victims of crime into permanent housing. The YE & XH programs provide engagement assessment and resource coordination support to transitional age youth (TAY) (ages 1825.


Position Summary: Supervisor will guide develop and support program staff with providing assistance and housing support to TAY who visit the ORC or are referred into the program. Supervisor will coach program staff on administering assessments to determine youths needs and getting connected to appropriate community resources (e.g.: employment education housing etc. that will best support the youth. Supervisor is also responsible for multiple service reports as well as contract reports.

Requirements

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Hire and maintain a team who are knowledgeable and able to support young people.
  • Provide supervision guidance coaching and training to assigned program staff.
  • Act as the main contact for other Orangewood Foundation departments regarding resources and support available to all other youth served by the youth emergency housing program.
  • Coordinate interactions and interface with community partners to maintain and expand the resource base.
  • Make decisions about the daytoday activities and caseloads of program staff including the youth status budgeting meetings scheduling contract deliverables etc.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed to support staff and young people and be available after hours to manage and support staff during any crisiss situation.
  • Provide trauma informed strengthbased person centered program and services that include assessment of needs safety planning advocacy referrals to supportive services and relationship building and empowerment.
  • Ensure staff are supporting youth through navigating and accessing housing options through the Coordinated Entry System/HMIS database link to YE program funded partners and other programs as needed.
  • Engage in community outreach to identify partners who will best support the youth and their goals.
  • In partnership with the Manger ensure contract compliance by conducting internal audits and file reviews.
  • Other tasks projects and duties may be assigned at leadership discretion.

Knowledge Skill and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Human Services Sociology Social Work Education Psychology or related field required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the human services field working with homeless youth foster youth counseling or relevant experience.
  • 12 years supervisory experience of personnel and program preferred.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
  • Demonstrate understanding of housing resources (Housing Vouchers Shelters Permanent Supportive Housing and Rapid ReHousing).
  • Demonstrate understanding and be comfortable working with young people who present with substance use mental and behavioral health and/or are homeless.
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of higher education financial aid scholarship etc.
  • Be comfortable with and understand adolescent & child abuse issues.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to do public speaking and be comfortable speaking on the phone presenting oneself in professional and community settings.
  • Demonstrate strong independent project management skills.
  • Ability to multitask be detailed oriented independently make significant decisions and be a selfstarter.
  • Available to work weekends and evenings as needed.
  • Effective communication skills include writing public speaking and conflict resolution/mediation skills.
  • Highly motivated willing to learn and able to work independently at times.
  • Highly motivated to collaborate with external and internal programs.
  • Be comfortable with and understand young adult adolescent & child abuse issues.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; Outlook Word Excel Power Point.
  • Possess a valid California drivers license and proof of automobile insurance. Position requires DMV clearance.
  • Preemployment screenings include criminal background check FBI/DOJ fingerprinting TB test drug screen and previous employment verification.

    Working Environment/Physical Requirements:

    • Modification to work schedule may be made based on needs of the Foundation.
