The role
Northeastern University London invites applications for a Lecturer in Creative Writing. The appointee will support the teaching and delivery of the online MA programme Contemporary Creative Writing. Appointments will be commensurate with experience and qualifications reflecting a record of demonstrated teaching excellence.
The successful candidate will be a published novelist and/or short story writer and should have experience of teaching across various forms of creative writing (fiction creative nonfiction poetry dramatic scripts) at MA level. They will have experience of teaching creative writing courses online ideally at MA level. They will Course Lead and teach the course Masterclass: Short Stories and Novels and coteach either the course Publishing Your Writing or Creative Writing Now (according to expertise both of which are multiform. They will be responsible for monitoring online forums interacting with students both via forums and in online onetoones (Office Hours) offering written and verbal feedback on worksinprogress and designing and running weekly Webinars for the periods in which they are teaching. They will also be responsible for marking and feeding back on assessments connected to their courses. Preference may be given to candidates with active interests in contemporary creative writing modern publishing practices and inclusive online education.
We particularly encourage applications from those with an interest in innovative teaching learning and assessment; those with experience of supporting a wide variety of students; and those belonging to groups underrepresented in UK higher education. The successful candidate would ideally teach from our London campuses but hybrid/remote working will be considered under specific conditions to be established prior to the contracts commencement.
Priority will be given to Northeastern University London faculty nearing the end of fixed term contracts.
About the Faculty
The Faculty of Humanities comprises of five disciplines: English Academic and Creative Writing; History with Art History; Law and Criminology; Modern Languages; Philosophy which are some of the longstanding subjects at the institution. It is home to three undergraduate dualdegree (in UK and US) programmes in the areas of English History Philosophy; and a UKfocused LLB in Law. It is also home to two postgraduate programs: the online MA Contemporary Creative Writing and the MA Philosophy and Artificial Intelligence.
The Humanities Faculty plays a major part in Northeastern Universitys global experience program offering undergraduate courses across all its subject areas and striving to inspire and equip entering students to be outstanding scholars with a solid background in humanities and humancentred competencies.
Person Specification Criteria
To undertake this role the following should applyshould you not have the experience below please do highlight where transferable skills would assist with you undertaking the role. Unless specified all criteria are considered essential.
Qualifications
Masters degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant area
PhD completed or near completion (all but dissertation) or equivalent professional experience in a relevant area (desirable)
FHEA status or equivalent achieved or expected (desirable)
Key Criteria
Demonstrates through evidence excellent ability to be adaptable innovative and inclusive in teaching
Ability to develop excellent educational provision in areas with significant appeal to students with a focus on experiential learning
Teaching competency in narrative fiction and at least one other form of creative writing at Level 7 (i.e. postgraduate studies
Published author of at least one short story collection or novel with a wellregarded publisher
Experience teaching creative writing courses online (ideally at Level 7
Excellent written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills including presentation skills both facetoface and online
Excellent IT skills and evidence of supporting the integration of technologies into learning and teaching
Excellent timemanagement and organisational skills
