Delawares Attorney General the States chief law enforcement officer has a broad responsibility to combat crime uphold civil rights safeguard families fight fraud and protect consumers in the First State.

In meeting this mission Attorney General Kathy Jennings is supported by teams of talented lawyers and staff in the Criminal Civil Family Fraud and Consumer Protection and Civil Rights and Public Trust Divisions. Each of the more than 500 staff who work in the Office of the Attorney General are dedicated to serving all Delawareans with integrity and passion.

Deputy Attorneys General with critical support from criminal special investigators victim service specialists paraprofessionals and administrative staff prosecute criminal cases enforce consumer laws provide counsel to state agencies ensure the publics access to open government protect the abused and much more.

Summary Statement

The Delaware Department of Justice is seeking a highly motivated and experienced attorney to serve as a Deputy Attorney General in the Office of Impact Litigation part of the Fraud & Consumer Protection Division located in the Brandywine Building 1000 N. West Street Wilmington.

This position reports directly to the Director of the Office of Impact Litigation and will represent the Attorney General and the State in a broad range of impact litigation and investigative matters aligned with the Attorney Generals policy priorities. Areas of focus may include constitutional rights environmental protection firearms safety federal rulemaking healthcare immigration labor protections and the oversight of Delawares charitable entities.

*This position may be eligible for telework for up to three days per week.

Essential Functions

The Deputy Attorney General will handle affirmative litigation and investigations in support of the Attorney Generals policy objectives including multistate and instate matters involving constitutional rights environmental protection firearms safety healthcare immigration employee labor protections and oversight of Delawares charitable entities. The role may include leading or supporting investigations that could lead to future impact litigation efforts.

In addition the Deputy Attorney General may assist with the development and review of amicus briefs rulemaking comments and position letters on noncriminal matters. This includes working closely with other Deputy Attorneys General and a Paralegal to track incoming materials conduct legal research and prepare recommendations for the Attorney Generals consideration. The Deputy Attorney General may also participate in drafting original briefs comments or letters to reflect and implement the Attorney Generals policy goals.

The position may also include work related to the Attorney Generals charter revocation authority requiring coordination with the federal Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) and the Delaware Division of Corporations. Other duties may be assigned by the Director of the Office of Impact Litigation as needed.

Job Requirements

Candidates should possess exceptional organizationalskills the ability to work independently and a proven track record of meetingdeadlines. A comprehensive understanding of complex civil litigation isessential. Applicants must have a minimum of five years of legal practiceexperience.

Ideal candidates will bring at least ten years ofexperience handling complex litigation in both federal and state courts alongwith excellent writing and oral advocacy skills. Familiarity with financialreporting and basic accounting principles is preferred.

We are seeking an individual who demonstrates a strongcommitment to public service and advancing the public interest. Admission tothe Delaware Bar or a willingness to sit for the next Delaware Barexamination is required.
