What You Will Do

  • Pratt & Whitneys Mechanical Systems Externals and Nacelles (MSEN) engineering module is seeking for a highly motivated Senior Structures Engineer.

  • Perform structural analysis of both Externals and Mechanical systems hardware through both preliminary & detailed design validation certification and support of manufacturing and operational service.

  • Participate as the structures representative on multidiscipline integrated product teams providing design solutions that balance customer requirements for durability performance cost and weight.

  • Validation test coverage (both engine and rig) consisting of live monitoring of instrumentation response relative to applicable limits post processing test data and evaluation of test data relative to program requirements.

  • Support inservice field investigations.

  • Use FE and classical methods for strength stress/deflection vibration fatigue life and damage tolerance.

  • Work to advance technology and improve engineering standard work processes/methods.

  • Document analysis results and present conclusions to PW management and external customers.

  • English (read write speak) is required when communicating with customers coworkers or supervisors who only speak English.

  • Based on business needs the incumbent may be required to support other duties/functions within the company and have availability to travel up to 10 domestically.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Aerospace or Civil Engineering.

  • 5 years of engineering experience or advanced degree in Engineering with 3 years of engineering experience.

  • Experience with structural engineering experience with FE and classical methods for strength stress/deflection vibration fatigue life or damage tolerance.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.

  • U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.

  • Externals and/or Mechanical Systems hardware knowledge.

  • Mechanical Systems Externals and Nacelles Engineering is responsible for the design development and in service support of power transmission systems bearing compartment and rotor support design and analysis oil and thermal management systems engine externals packaging and architecture as well as nacelles for commercial and military engine models. Technical disciplines include Project Engineering Mechanical Design Structural Analysis Product Definition System Modeling Mechanical Design analysis for bearings gears and seals and fluidthermal modeling of associated components and systems.

  • Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers as they are essential to the development of our engines.
