The University of Utahs LEAP Learning Community which primarily serves entering undergraduate students seeks an instructor to teach courses in the Fall and Spring semesters. The appointment will begin in the Fall of 2024 with annual renewal and/or expansion of the assignment possible. The mission of LEAP now in its 30th year is to support student success by helping students successfully transition to the University learn skills necessary for success in higher education and build connections across campus. LEAP courses are conceived of as a twosemester sequence taken in the students first year at the University. LEAP partners with various colleges and programs on campus including the College of Health the College of Engineering and the College of Social and Behavioral Science to offer a high impact learning experience. LEAP courses meet the Universitys General Education and Diversity requirements and focus on the following Intellectual Exploration Learning Outcomes: 1 critical thinking 2 information literacy and 3 teamwork. LEAP courses also meet Learning Community Learning Outcomes: 1 creating intellectual connections across ideas and concepts 2 intrapersonal connections through selfassessment and reflection and 3 campus and community connections to build a sense of belonging. LEAP classes are currently capped at 30 students. Each class has an assigned Peer Advisor Student Success Coach and Librarian with five sessions over each semester taught or cotaught by the LEAP instructor and the librarian. Classes are typically highly interactive with a team project required. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or terminal degree in their field. Candidates should have a record of excellent and innovative teaching. Successful candidates will be committed to working in a collaborative interdisciplinary environment and to enhancing undergraduate education and success. This position will commence with a oneyear appointment term. Continuation beyond this initial period will be based on teaching evaluations course reviews and program needs. Instructors begin teaching in LEAP as Assistant Professor (Lecturer) and may be appointed to and promoted within Lectureship ranks after 5 years of teaching. Responsibilities: The instructor will teach three sections of LEAP each semester. These three sections may depend on program needs. Complete list of course offerings are available on LEAP website. In addition to teaching their assigned courses LEAP instructors are expected to attend faculty meetings hold weekly office hours engage in professional development activities and program service meet with their Peer Advisor and librarian regularly and support LEAP events.
