Overview
Hundreds of millions of human genomes and exomes are expected to be sequenced over the next decade driven by steady innovations in sequencing technologies pioneered by Illumina. The enormous quantities of genomic data being generated by Illumina in collaboration with our partners worldwide represents a major opportunity to develop novel datadriven and artificial intelligence methods to extract clinically actionable information from the genome and apply it towards improving human health.
Our Exceptional Multidisciplinary Team Is Unlocking The Power Of The Genome
To accelerate the pace of discovery from large human genetics and single cell datasets Illumina is recruiting a worldclass computational scientist to work on the development of novel algorithms and machine learning models for deciphering the effects of genetic perturbations and genetic variants in the human genome at unprecedented scale. Major aims would include analyzing large scale single cell datasets to map pathways and decipher gene regulatory programs and pooling together analyses of multiomics datasets with clinical and genetic data from hundreds of thousands of patients to discover new insights.
A key objective is to publish research results in peerreviewed journals describing novel algorithms and discoveries in the field of largescale single cell multiomics and human genetics thereby removing barriers to clinical adoption of whole genome sequencing. In addition to strong analytical skills this position will require a high degree of initiative autonomy and scientific collaboration.
Position Responsibilities:
Lead the development of novel bioinformatics and deep learning algorithms for deciphering human genetic variants gene regulation gene expression and disease pathways by using information from detailed clinical phenotypes and medical records multiomics single cell proteomics and genomic data.
Lead scientific collaborations with Illuminas academic nonprofit and industry partners and lead a multidisciplinary team focused on achieving these aims.
Publish and disseminate methods and findings and incorporate them into software products to the benefit of the wider genetics community.

Position Requirements:
Expert in statistical genetics computational biology and/or machine learning with high profile publications and 4 years of experience in the field
Possesses strong communication skills with the ability to present complex scientific ideas to clinical scientific and industry audiences.
Be willing to work in a fast paced competitive environment and hold a strong record of successful delivery of complex scientific projects and publications under tight timelines.

Preferred Experience/Education/Skills:
MD or PhD in computer science genetics computational biology or related field.
Senior: 5 years of experience in bioinformatics and machine learning applications in genomics $159400 $239200
Staff: 6 years of experience in bioinformatics and machine learning applications in genomics preferred $175300 $262900

The estimated base salary range for the Senior / Staff Bioinformatics / Deep Learning Scientist Foster City CA (San Francisco Bay Area) role based in the United States of America is: $111000 $166600. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including but not limited to an individuals qualifications location where the role is to be performed internal equity and alignment with market data.
