Performs a variety of duties involving the diagnoses treatment and management of individuals with hearing loss or balance problems.I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Identifies assesses diagnoses manages and interprets test results related to disorders of human hearing balance and other neural systems for neonatal through geriatric populations.
2. Conducts and supervises newborn hearing screening programs. Measures and interprets tests for neurophysiologic intraoperative monitoring and cranial nerve assessment. Conducts tests of hearing balance and neural system dysfunction. Conducts otoscopic examinations and manages external ear canal. Evaluates and manages children and adults with central auditory processing disorders.
3. Selects evaluates fits facilities adjustment to and dispensing hearing aids cochlear implants sensory aids hearing assistive devices alerting systems telecommunication systems and captioning devices.
4. Provides audiological rehabilitation including speechreading communication management language development counseling for psychosocial adjustments to hearing loss for persons with hearing loss and their families and caregivers.
5. Acts as a consultant to educators as members of interdisciplinary teams about communication management education implications of hearing loss education programming classroom acoustics large area amplification systems for children with hearing loss.
6. Designs implements and coordinates occupational school and community hearing conservation and identification programs to prevent workplace and recreational hearing loss due to noise.

II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Masters or Doctorate Degree in Audiology from an accredited institution of higher learning.
2. Massachusetts Audiologist license.
3. Attainment of the Certificate of Clinical Competence within six months of date of hire.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Thorough knowledge of the discipline of Audiology.
2. Demonstrated skill in analyzing problems and making decisions.
3. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
4. Ability to work cooperatively with all members of the healthcare team.
5. Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred:
1. Minimum of 1 year Audiology experience.
Unless certification licensure or registration is required an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
Departmentspecific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
Work is considered sedentary. Position requires work indoors in a patient care and normal office environment.
