The Office of the AuditorController is seeking entrylevel AccountantAuditors to take part in the New Auditor Training and Development Program in Santa Barbara. The New Auditor Training and Development Program (NATD) provides a unique opportunity for entrylevel AccountantAuditors. Not only does it provide a useful overview of the AuditorControllers Office but it also provides an understanding of the role of the AuditorControllers Office within the county organization. The NATD Program rotates new AccountantAuditors over a 2 to 4year period (depending on the candidates professional track) through the divisions within the Office of the AuditorController to gain experience in accounting auditing and financial reporting.

ACCOUNTANTAUDITOR I is the entrylevel in this professional series. Incumbents learn departmental and County accounting policies procedures and systems; Generally Accepted Auditing Standards; departmental and County auditing policies procedures and systems; and practices associated with governmental accounting. Incumbents at this level may supervise clerical and paraprofessional accounting staff.
CAREER PROGRESSION: AccountantAuditor I/II/III is a flexibly staffed series. The class of AccountantAuditor is found only in the AuditorControllers Office. Incumbents in this class may be assigned accounting duties in the Operations Financial Reporting or Financial Systems Divisions of the AuditorControllers Office or may be assigned auditing duties in the Internal Audit Division.
The AccountantAuditor class is distinguished from the Accountant class in that the work of the AccountantAuditors is broader in scope encompassing the full range of responsibility for County as opposed to departmental finances; in addition AccountantAuditors may be assigned auditing duties.

Knowledge of: Generally Accepted Accounting Principles including internal control systems cost accounting and general ledger; personal computer applications; Standard English grammar and usage.
Ability to: gather organize and analyze data; learn interpret and apply legal and procedural requirements; interpret and apply professional principles and standards; perform mathematical calculations; learn County financial processes and systems; learn principles and practices of government accounting; learn principles of management theory; explain regulations principles guidelines procedures and processes to others; establish and maintain working relationships with vendors and departmental staff and management; maintain impartiality and objectivity; learn to analyze fiscal data and operating procedures of routine complexity and make projections and recommendations; learn principles of supervision including selection training evaluation and discipline; write narrative reports.
Additional Qualifications: Possession of a valid California Class C Drivers License may be required for some positions in this class.
Desirable: knowledge of Generally Accepted Auditing Standards; automated accounting systems.
APPLICATION & SELECTION PROCESS:
Candidates must receive a percentage score of at least 70 on the Supplemental Questionnaire Ranking assessment to be placed on an employment list. An adjustment may be made to raw scores based on factors listed in Civil Service Rule VI. Those candidates who are successful in the selection process will have their names placed on the employment list for a minimum of three months. At the time the employment list is established all candidates will receive an email notice of their score on the exam(s) rank on the employment list and exact duration of the employment list.

Once a conditional offer of employment has been made the selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a criminal background investigation and satisfactory reference checks. The appointee may be subject to a postoffer medical evaluation or examination. The appointee must also satisfactorily complete a twelve 12 month probationary period.
