Executive Summary:

The Dean of the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is responsible for leading the education research and service mission of SSPPS. The Dean works collaboratively in a shared governance framework with the faculty and staff to develop implement and evaluate comprehensive strategic plans for all efforts of the School. This role will work to identify facilitate and promote multidisciplinary inter and intracollege/school and international educational service research scholarly and creative activities.

The Dean of SSPPS is a key member of the Anschutz Medical Campus leadership team serving as a strategist advocate leader of integrity and effective spokesperson for academic and constituent concerns as well as other matters related to the wellbeing of the School consistent with its vision and mission. The Dean provides vision and guidance in all aspects of the Schools educational programs research and scholarly endeavors outside funding efforts and community outreach and service programs. This role recruits and retains an exceptional pool of qualified faculty staff and students from a broad range of backgrounds and perspectives enhances funded research inspires philanthropy and continuously improves the teaching and learning environment for students. The Dean will also be expected to encourage effective collaborative relationships within the School with partner institutions and among schools and colleges within the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

Key Responsibilities:

The dean serves as the chief academic officer of the school and has full responsibility for academic programs and curriculum matters the budget and development activities.

Vision:

Develop a shared vision with SSPPS faculty staff and students based on open communication and trusting relationships.

Further the strategic objectives of SSPPS including creating collaborative and innovative programs and opportunities for faculty students alumni and community practitioners.

Lead the SSPPS in building alliances with offcampus constituencies businesses government agencies and the notforprofit community to enhance the schools stature its research productivity and its funding and grant opportunities.

Recruitment and Retention of Talent:

Identify and recruit outstanding talent at the faculty staff and student level with specific emphasis on a broad range of skills background and perspectives consistent with the strategic objectives of the school and CU Anschutz Medical Campus.

Enhance retention strategies that include mentorship of junior faculty and support for faculty across academic ranks.

Education:

Lead the further improvement of relevant career focused educational programs in research teaching and pharmacy practice including the delivery of offcampus programming.

Research:

Increase the breadth and vitality of the SSPPS by promoting the recruitment retention and collaboration of distinguished faculty.

Work with partners and in particular the VC for Research on the Anschutz Medical Campus to promote funding opportunities while assuring there are sufficient resources for faculty staff and students to conduct research on campus.

Pharmacy Practice:

Foster and enhance relationships with and identify opportunities for strategic partnership with the practice community.

Ensure that the relationships with external organizations are of high quality and high impact.

Provide intellectual leadership and strong commitment to workforce development for the profession.

Management:

Work closely with senior leadership to advance the interests of the SSPPS including serving on universitywide and crossuniversity committees and taskforces.

Work collaboratively and transparently with faculty to advance and innovate across the mission areas of SSPPS.

Ensure the school is run efficiently and effectively and assure schoolwide financial stability and growth including oversight and participation in the budget fundraising and strategic planning of the school in cooperation with SSPPS administrative directors.

Represent the school to external constituents throughout Colorado the region nationally and internationally including alumni pharmacy professionals members of the media elected officials boards and donors in cooperation with the SSPPS & campus external relations.

About the School:

Originally established in 1911 as a department of the School of Medicine at the University of Colorado at Boulder the School of Pharmacy opened its doors with two students and one faculty member. The school became an independent college in 1913 the same year it awarded its first degree and CU Pharmacy became a school in 1957. The school held its first classes at the former Health Sciences Center campus in 1992. In 2008 the school moved to the CU Anschutz Medical Campus a comprehensive health center where teaching research and health care combine.

During its 110 year history the School of Pharmacy has been a global leader in medical discoveries patient care pharmacy advocacy and online education. CU School of Pharmacy is ranked in the top 10 percent of all pharmacy schools in the nation producing graduates that exceed national student outcomes and enjoy stellar career opportunities. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Accomplishments in working with faculty groups senior campus leadership and executivelevel leadership personnel from government business and notforprofit communities as well as other internal and external constituencies.

Successful experience in fundraising building a stronger program of funded research and other missionaligned revenue generation.

An appreciation of contemporary pharmacy and pharmaceutical science issues as evidenced by contributions to publications/reports addressing these issues.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range or hiring range for this position has been established as $350000 $450000.

The above salary range or hiring range represents the Universitys good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
