The float nurse works in a collaborative relationship with the Chief Academic and Student Services Officer school administrators school nurses and the student services team to assist with health services and provide leadership in establishing a complete and effective program of school health.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Reports to parents school personnel physicians clinics and other agencies on school medical matters.
Communicates with other School Nurses for all incoming students upon intake at Alternative School to ensure continuity of any applicable health services.
Conducts school health service including immunization checks administering medications and conducting hearing and vision screenings as requested.
Attends committee meetings and conferences regarding health service and health curriculum.
Prepares data for reports for the Chief Academic and Student Services Officer.
Maintains uptodate cumulative health records on all students.
Identifies and refers students who need medical and dental care.
Observe students regularly to detect health needs.
Assumes authority for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness.
Contacts homes of children regarding health concerns when referred by principals.
Advises on modifications to meet the health needs of individual students for Individual Health Plans (IHCPs).
Advise teachers on health matters particularly regarding screening for student health concerns.
Participates in Inservice training programs.
Administers medication per physician orders and contacts physicians when needed.
Completes and collects student injury reports and submits them to the Chief Academic and Student Services Officer.
Provides necessary Health Education for students families and staff.
Writes nursing notes on students with medical conditions when necessary.
Adheres to confidentiality concerning privileged information.
Properly secures medications.
Maintains a clean organized school clinic. Adequate nursing documentation on appropriate clinic forms and electronic medical records.
Carries out all medical procedures within the school.
Reviews medical history of students; assesses students physical appearance pertaining to health and wellness; provides care plans on students for school records.
Adheres to Universal Precautions in all situations.
Assists other LCS schools in nursing procedures as directed bythe Chief Academic and Student Services Officer as needed.
Maintains a professional image at all times by wearing clean and wrinklefree uniforms/scrubs.
Performs other duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A diploma from an accredited school of nursing or an Associate of Arts degree in Nursing from an accredited school or a Bachelors or Masters degree in Nursing or a related field from an accredited school.
An active license to practice nursing in the State of Virginia.
Current CPR and First Aid certification.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to respond promptly to an emergency anywhere in the school.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Two 2 years of pediatric or community health experience.
Basic understanding of the physiological and psychological aspects of normal and abnormal
development.
Ability to independently perform nursing treatments specifically related to students with complex
medical needs.
Ability to relate to children parents medical and educational personnel.
Experience working with Special Education students.
Good leadership ability.
Ability to conduct telephonebased or inperson interviews data collection and data entry.

Travel within the City of burg as needed
