About Harris County Flood Control District:
The Districts core mission is to mitigate the risk of flooding in Harris County which boasts a population of over 4.7 million and includes the City of Houston the fourth largest city in the United States. The Districts responsibilities extend to approximately 1500 channels spanning nearly 2500 miles over 60 regional stormwater detention basins covering more than 10000 acres and several wetlands mitigation banks such as Greens Bayou.
What you will do atHarris County Flood Control District:
Harris County Flood Control District (District) is seeking a qualified candidate for the role of GIS Systems Technician.
The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Systems Technician is responsible for creating and maintaining GIS data that is stored in the Districts ArcGIS enterprise and Geocortex system analyzing the data to support the Districts internal activities and distributing data externally as needed.
Essential Functions and Duties:Data Management:- Creates and maintains GIS data in the Districts GIS enterprise.
- Maintains metadata data accuracy and consistency across layers and services in the GIS enterprise and ArcGIS Portal.
- Prepares GIS data to fulfill GIS data requests made by consultants and the public.
- Provides troubleshooting and optimizes published services used in Geocortex and ArcGIS Portal web applications and maps.
- Creates maintains and supports Geocortex applications.
- Automates processes using Python ArcPy Modelbuilder and the ArcGIS REST API.
- Maintains and enforces content governance and best practices.
- Analyzes GIS data.
- Additional Responsibilities and Support:
- Attend seminars conference workshops and other training programs.
- Assist with division or District projects as needed.
- Work hours may vary based on the business needs of the department.
- Perform other duties that may be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directs.

Education:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
Experience:
- Two 2 years experience working with GIS products equipment mapping and computeraided design (CAD)
- Experience with Esris GIS software including ArcGIS Pro Phyton ArcToolbox and/or ArcMap.
One year of experience may be allowed for each year of education in GIS related course work.
Licensure:Knowledge Skills and Abilities:- Valid Class C Texas Drivers License.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Proficiency with Esri software including ArcGIS Pro and ArcMap.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Good diagnostic and analytical skills.
- Can work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and/or assignments.

- Work is performed indoors in a normal office environment with acceptable lighting temperature air conditions and noise levels.
- Requires extensive use of a video display terminal (computer monitor).
- May be exposed to fluids compounds or chemicals used for photographic or photocopier development or reproduction.
- When at field locations may be exposed to significant levels of heat cold moisture air pollution wind and dust wildlife and flying/walking insects.
- When at field locations may be exposed to vibration and/or noise in excess of 85 decibels.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
