Job Description
Leidos is looking for a Senior Paralegal to join our Washington DC teams supporting the DOJ Office of the Pardon Attorney.
Primary Responsibilities
Review and synthesize large volumes of public rulemaking comments collected.
Review legal and court documents to include procedural and factual histories; conduct legal research and investigation; produce written and oral legal work products.
Obtain or review required information from criminal case files law enforcement agencies or other sources including legal documents for review.
Electronically request and collect reports from the casework partners including the other federal or Department agencies.
Conduct legal research on various Department and government litigation positions for use in casework products.
Preserve records necessary for litigation proceedings related to the casework of the office.
Engage in correspondence with applicants/petitioners advocates and the public.
Draft correspondence to casework partners including U.S. Attorneys offices and the appropriate unit of the Federal Bureau of Investigation seeking case review or investigation.
Provide support to reviewers conducting application/casework review including copyediting summarizing caserelated materials performing general investigatory functions and conducting legal research.
Compile and organize relevant documents in preparation for correspondence with various casework partners.
Advise on actions taken or developments in cases referred by other departments or agencies.
Scan and input caserelated materials into electronic case management system.
Maintain the electronic case files enter data in the case management system and calendar deadlines using MS Outlook.
Basic Qualifications:
Requires paralegal certificate or JD or currently attending an ABAaccredited law school having completed at least one year of study or an equivalent level of legal training or experience; or an equivalent level of education may be substituted
At least two years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) is required.
Requires sound working knowledge of the federal and state court system legal research procedures and legal research resources.
Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
Must have handson familiarity with a variety of computer applications including word processing databases (such as document review and file management systems) spreadsheets imaging and hardware systems.
Requires handson familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
Ability to consistently deliver the highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.
Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a Government and/or Litigation Support environment.
Strong analytic organizational and writing skills.
Paralegal certificate or JD
At least two years of litigation paralegal experience
This position is covered under the Service Contract Act and is subject to minimum requirements. Leidos ensures that all provisions are satisfied. The pay for this position will be $31.69hr.
