Join the Department of Microbiology and Immunology atthe Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity as a Project Manager supporting a major international research initiative targeting the global spread of HTLV1. Working in the laboratory of Professor Damian Purcell you will play a key role in managing a NHMRCAMED ASPIRE Grant project in partnership with leading virologists in Japan Australia and the USA.
This role will coordinate a collaborative research and mobility program focused on developing therapeutic interventions for all stages of HTLV1 infection. You will work closely with internal stakeholders across the University of Melbourne including Doherty Institute and WEHI University of New South Wales with the Kirby Institute Queensland University of Technology and liaise with external partners including The National Institutes of Health in USA and The University of Tokyo Kumamoto University and Japans National Institute of Infectious Diseases.
Fluent in both English and Japanese you will be a highly organised communicator who thrives in a crosscultural multiinstitutional research environment. You will support highlevel project planning and delivery facilitate communications and ensure streamlined coordination across sectors and borders.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide management support for the implementation of the strategic objectives for the ASPIREAMED research program.
- Develop manage and implement largescale complex workplans across project areas.
- Coordinate and facilitate annual international/national meetings with some interstate and Japanese travel required.
- Work directly with project leads investigators technical experts and governance committees and stakeholders as required to support achievement of project objectives.
- Support management of project work plan budgeting monitoring of progress and milestones and contribution to project and financial reporting as required.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to progress project activities through support for coordination of project personnel activities meetings and facilitating communication across collaborators as required.
- Overall operational management across largescale projects including planning implementation and evaluation finance and budgeting and reporting.
You may be a great fit if:
You are a bilingual professional fluent in English and Japanese with strong crosscultural communication skills and a deep understanding of cultural protocols between Japan and Australia.
With a background in research project management or biological sciences you bring excellent organisational and project management capabilities to large complex programs. You are a skilled communicator with experience preparing reports briefings and stakeholder updates. Known for your initiative analytical thinking and ability to work independently or collaboratively you excel at keeping projects on track and building strong professional relationships.
You also have:
- Demonstrated full professional proficiency (ILR Level 4 in both English and Japanese with the ability to communicate effectively in complex professional settings.
- A relevant tertiary qualification and demonstrated experience in research project management or biological sciences.
- Strong understanding of cultural protocols and expectation between Japanese and Australian stakeholders.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills and the ability to work with a high level of attention to detail in relation planning and implementation of project activities.
- Excellent written communication skills including preparation of briefings reports and development of proposals and public facing communications as required.
- Demonstrated ability to develop clear project plans and timelines communicate effectively with stakeholders and monitor project progress.
- Established problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to apply judgement to deliver specific solutions.
