Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit including GO Expansion Light Rail Transit routes and major expansions to Torontos subway system to get people where they need to go better faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

PRESTO is an electronic transit fare payment system in the Greater Toronto Hamilton and Ottawa areas that eliminates the need for tickets passes and cash. PRESTO serves more than 5 million customers across 11 transit agencies and processes over $2.5 billion in fares through 67 million boardings per month (prepandemic). Today PRESTO offers one of the most globally advanced fare payment systems in the world having delivered new ways to pay for customers including real time PRESTO Contactless with credit and Interac debit and PRESTO in Mobile Wallet across its transit agency clients including the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). Enhancing the customer experience through continuous improvement while working with our transit agency clients to support their needs and maintaining a system that performs exceptionally continue to drive PRESTO toward making transit better for all.
Our PRESTO Finance Operations department is seeking a permanent Senior Financial Analyst whowill be responsible for managing and maintaining databases analyzing financial data preparing financial reports and supporting strategic decisionmaking by leveraging data analytics and visualization tools. They will also support various Presto projects throughout the entire project delivery lifecycle.
What will I be doing
- Develop and maintain financial models and dashboardsthat are visually appealing and intuitiveto provide insights into financial performance and support decisionmaking.
- Identify and recommend areas for process improvement based on datadriven analysis.
- Present financial findings and recommendations to senior management and other stakeholders clearly and concisely.
- Gather and analyze business requirements from stakeholders and translate them into technical specifications for financial models reports and dashboards.
- Provide subject matter expertise to support the development of business cases and finance operational decisions including accounting entries as they affect the financial system and operating processes
- Leads and represents the Finance Operations department through the entire project delivery lifecycle for various PRESTO projects focusing on the people process and technology implications for the Finance Operations department
- Responsible for working with the Finance Operations department to gather requirements and review design documents to ensure the financial integrity of the PRESTO system
- Participates in and supports testing to ensure the success of Finance Operations processes postgolive of the project
- Attends and actively participates in project meetings and workshops coordinates workshops for Finance Operations staff facilitates meetings with stakeholders to resolve issues as required
- Provides regular project status updates to the Finance Operations department and escalates issues and risks to management as appropriate
- Proactively identify incidents/problems and raise them in the appropriate channels to ensure they are resolved and the necessary steps are taken to prevent them from reoccurring
- Recommend process and control improvements (e.g. automating technology or accounting practices) and provide clear standards of practice protocols and direction for internal and external partners
- As a senior professional guide and mentor other financial professionals on the team; establishing policies and procedures for analysis and reporting and reviewing their work as required
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need
- Universitydegree in Accounting Finance Math or Commerce or related discipline or a combination of education training and experience deemed equivalent
- Designation as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) would be considered an asset
- Demonstrated experience as a financial analystprimarily within a financial environment following Canadian GAAP principlesexpertise in financial data analysis and financial reporting
- Strong attention to detail time management organizational and analytical skills
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint etc.
- Experience with Power Query to connect to various data sources transform data and load data into Power BI is an asset
- Experience with data visualization best practices and design principles is an asset
- Experience with SQL and Access taking a lead role in managing and maintaining databases while ensuring the accuracy integrity and security of financial data.
- Project management or business analysis experience is an asset
- Role as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and/or lead on process integration considered an asset
- Ability to coordinate a number of complex projects under pressure to meet schedule and deadline commitments
- Excellent analytical technical and problemsolving skills
- Excellent interpersonal oral and written/presentation communication skills
- Experience and demonstrated ability with developing and optimizing database queries to enhance efficient data retrieval processes
