Description

This is a remote position based in the US. Candidates located in the Chicago or Detroit areas preferred.



Responsibilities
  • Lead the development or review or audit/assessment of safety work products for clients seeking compliance to standards in functional safety and related fields primarily ISO 26262. Other evaluations may include IEC 61508 IEC/EN 62061 ISO 61511 ISO 21448 UL 4600 ISO 13849 ISO 8800 and other similar standards relevant to systems and software engineering.
  • Lead the development or review or audit/assessment of safety management processes for clients seeking to compliance to standards in functional safety and related fields primarily ISO 26262. Other evaluations may include IEC 61508 IEC/EN 62061 ISO 61511 ISO 21448 UL 4600 ISO 13849 ISO 8800 and other similar standards relevant to systems and software engineering.
  • Employ established methods and frameworks relevant to functional safety and related fields to lead the engineering development or review or audit/assessment of safety cases for complex softwareintensive systems. Methods and frameworks may include safety analysis such as FMEA FMEDA FTA safety requirements management safety concepts such as FSC/TSC work products system and software architectures HIL and SIL test system integration test vehicle integration test and system/vehicle validation.
  • Lead full training events in topics relevant to functional safety and related fields primarily ISO 26262 IEC 61508 IEC/EN 62061 ISO 61511 ISO 21448 UL 4600 ISO 13849 and other similar standards.
  • Provide mentorship and thoughtleadership in the development of juniorlevel engineering personnel.
  • Lead business development activities defining Statements of Work (SOWs) providing budgetary estimates and submitting full proposals for clientfunded projects.
  • Leverage industry experience and network to win projects and build the business.
  • Lead client programs including major/largescale client programs by interacting regularly with clients in technical program meetings and project reviews.
  • Address client concerns and to resolve client issues.
  • Provide expert technical leadership and guidance to clients in reference to functional safety and related technical fields.
  • Travel to client sites and to other UL locations 10 25 of time).
  • Provide leadership and technical advice on special projects.
  • Provide leadership and expertise on the strategic direction of the business by providing technical and market expertise to management planning and reportout activities.
  • Perform verification reviews or other technical review activities as directed.
  • Represent UL at industry related functions such as seminars and trade shows.
  • Communicate project status and results to clients through frequent contact reports and written communication and interactions with clients executivelevel leadership.
  • Working in a dynamic fastpaced team environment.
  • Contribute to the development of UL technical standards and other relevant technical standards (from ISO IEC IEEE SAE etc. by direct participation as member and leader of standards committees.
  • Serve in thoughtleadership roles in the technical community as contributor to engineering organizations such as technical standards committees organizing committees engineering societies and related chapters or regional organizations technical conferences and related positions; and by issuing technical publications and presentations exhibiting the thought leadership of UL and the employee.
  • Integrate continuous improvement and safety culture in all aspects of the job.
  • Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
  • Performs other duties as directed.


Qualifications
  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering Automotive Engineering Computer Science Engineering or a closely related field in a relevant technical field.
  • 8 or more years of automotive functional safety experience.
  • Indepth knowledge of ISO 26262 required. Indepth knowledge of ISO 8800 is strongly desired.
  • Detailed knowledge of the technical vocabulary common to the appropriate discipline.
  • Working knowledge of conformity standards in use in area of expertise.
  • Working knowledge of industry issues needs and problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply projecthandling concepts in use in area of expertise.

The estimated salary range for this position is $and is based on multiple factors including jobrelated knowledge/skills experience geographical location as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 20 of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings 401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country.
