The Oncology Division in the Department of Internal Medicine DOIM in the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine at the University of Utah and Huntsman Cancer Institute HCI are recruiting an outstanding clinician specializing in melanoma/skin cancers. The selected applicant will be appointed as Assistant Associate or Full Professor in the clinical or tenure track. They will provide clinical care and lead clinical or translational research in our main campus community and affiliate hospital locations. This position is part of Huntsman Cancer Institutes strategic priority to provide fully integrated high value cancer care across the Intermountain West. As part of a growing translational research initiative the successful candidate will have an opportunity to participate in multidisciplinary teams to develop clinical research programs. The Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine had $312 million in funding this year with the departments of Internal Medicine DOIM and Pediatrics contributing over $113 million followed by the departments of Biochemistry and Neurology contributing over $42 million. For more than seventyfive years the DOIM has had a rich history of providing excellent care quality research and valuable education in Utah. DOIM is a collaborative Department with strong partnerships among divisions across departments and with the VA Hospital and HCI . Further the DOIM has a strong research focus ranked 36th for all institutions and 17th for state/public universities with $45.3 M in total NIH funding in 2022. The DOIM has also seen doubledigit clinical growth for several years. HCI is an NCI Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network NCCN supporting and fostering a vibrant cancer research enterprise in a highly collegial environment. HCI has an outstanding history of academic achievement and impact with $122K extramural grant funding in FY2023 a collaborative environment and a commitment to excellence in patient care research teaching training community engagement and service. The Division of Oncology is one of twelve divisions within the Department of Internal Medicine DOIM . The faculty and advanced practice clinicians cover the entire spectrum of oncology and are dedicated to high quality valuedriven patient care education and innovation and discovery through basic clinical population and health services research. The Division Oncology is aligned with the Huntsman Cancer Institute HCI an NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center serving a large geographic area. Clinical activities in the Division of Oncology are supported by thirty physicians and twentyseven advanced practice clinicians who provide outpatient and inpatient care services at four locations in the Salt Lake Valley including the Huntsman Cancer Hospital HCH and the University of Utah Healths community clinics in South Jordan Sugarhouse and Farmington. Clinical activities include specialty programs such as the Huntsman Acute Care clinic Supportive Oncology & Survivorship SOS Family Cancer Assessment Clinic FCAC and Geriatric clinic among others. Outside of the valley the Division provides outreach services at the affiliate hospitals of Madison Memorial in Rexburg Idaho and St. Johns Health in Jackson Wyoming. The Division of Oncology has one of the most robust clinical trials research programs in the at HCI . HCI offers stateoftheart laboratories including a 225000 sq. ft. research building which opened in the summer of 2017 and doubled the Institutes research space. Research activities in the Division are supported by $17M in FY23 of annual extramural research funding through federal association/foundation and industry awards. In FY22 the Division of Oncology accounted for 45 of all Industry Trials 48 of all Investigator Initiated Trials (IITs) and 46 of NCI and Cooperative Group Trials at HCI . Further in the last few years the Division has made an investment in our Translational Research Program by hiring five MD/PhD researchers. Clinical research is supported by the HCI Clinical Trials Office tumor specimen repository and diseasespecific clinical databases. The Utah Population Database affords unique opportunities for oncology researchers interested in populationbased genetic research an area of great research strength at the University of Utah. The Oncology Division is highly committed to the education of fellows DOIM house staff PhD postdoctoral fellows and students. Attracting and training clinicians and researchers are integral to its education mission. Educational activities in the Division of Oncology include a combined Oncology/Hematology Fellowship program consisting of twelve fellows. The University of Utah offers excellent graduate programs for training PhD and MD/PhD students and a PhysicianScientist Training Program PSTP in the DOIM .
