What Youll Do:
As a member of our Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) team the PA/PNP will play a pivotal role in providing direct patient care to pediatric patients in the inpatient setting.
- Provide direct patient care and augment physician patient care for pediatric consultation services including pediatric trauma patients.
- Take responsibility for a subset of general pediatric patients including performing assessments formulating diagnostic and management plans and reviewing them with the attending physician.
- Assess new admissions during trainee teaching times focusing on resident signout and didactic sessions.
- Serve as the primary contact for new PHM consultations increasing our capacity to offer consultations to other services.
- Facilitate early and complex discharges providing crucial patient and family education.
- Take a mentorship role for trainees in NP/PA schools expanding our ability to host these trainees and contribute to their professional development.
- Support the newly developed PHM Trauma Consult Service performing initial consultations on trauma patients and providing comanagement services to the pediatric surgery/trauma service for complex cases.
- Assist in coordinating necessary consulting services (e.g. speech nutrition neurology PT/OT).
- Provide direct communication to PCPs and outpatient providers ensuring continuity of care.
- Focus on reducing readmissions facilitating timely discharge conducting safety screenings and offering caregiver counseling.
- Participate in quality improvement and research projects related to pediatric inpatient services.
- Serve as a liaison to nursing to improve communication between the bedside nurse and provider team.
- Take an active role in Pediatric Hospital Medicine section meetings.
The clinician functions under the regulatory mandate from their respective licensing organization (North Carolina Medical Board or North Carolina Board of Nursing) with departmental specific credentialing from the institution.
Physician Assistant (PA) Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program; Masters Degree preferred
- Current North Carolina Medical Board Medical License Certified by NCCPA
- Minimum of one year of experience in an acute care or pediatric environment
- BLS & PALS required.
Nurse Practitioner (NP) Requirements:
- Graduation from accredited Nurse Practitioner Masters Program Masters degree or higher required
- Current North Carolina Board of Nursing Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license
- Board certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner by AANP or ANCC
- Minimum of one year of experience in an acute care or pediatric environment
- BLS & PALS required
