Mechanical Engineering Patent Associate Opportunity Chicago IL
A nationally respected law firm is seeking a Patent Associate to join its Mechanical Engineering Practice Group in Chicago IL. This is a compelling opportunity for a motivated attorney with a strong engineering background to work on complex patent matters with globally recognized clients.

Key Responsibilities
Prepare and prosecute patent applications in mechanical and related technical fields
Conduct inventor interviews to translate innovations into strategic IP protections
Draft and amend patent claims analyze prior art and advocate before the USPTO
Support clients across a wide range of technologies including aerospace clean energy medical devices consumer products industrial systems and manufacturing processes. This includes work with mechanical electronic hydraulic chemical and algorithmic inventions as well as design and utility patents.
Qualifications
B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering Industrial Engineering Systems Engineering Civil Engineering or Biomedical Engineering (medical device background preferred)
J.D. and admission to the Illinois Bar (or eligibility to sit); USPTO admission required
1 3 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution
Strong academic credentials minimum 3.0 GPA; advanced degrees are a significant plus
Excellent communication organizational and analytical skills
Compensation and Benefits
Expected salary range: $190000 $265000 depending on the responsibilities of the position and the experience education and skills of the candidate

Requirements
Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering Biomedical Engineering or similar. Strong academic credentials plus. 13 years of patent preparation and prosecution experience. Licensed to practice law in Illinois or eligible to sit for the Illinois Bar; admission to practice before the USPTO. Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
