Job Description
We are looking for a skilled API Gateway Engineer/Developer to design implement and maintain API solutions using Kong API Gateway and Kong Konnect API Catalog. This role involves working closely with Development and DevOps teams creating solutions for validating publishing and managing APIs securing APIs developing automation pipelines and contributing to traffic observability and platform stability. Ideal candidates will have strong knowledge of RESTful APIs CI/CD and monitoring tools with bonus points for .NET Core and cloud infrastructure experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design implement and maintain API Gateway configurations using Kong API Gateway (routes services plugins consumers upstreams).
- Implement and enhance authentication and authorization mechanisms using Kongs native tools and capabilities.
- Develop and improve traffic monitoring and gateway health capabilities using tools such as Prometheus Grafana Graylog or similar.
- Support platform health monitoring using Kong Konnect Analytics Prometheus Grafana Graylog or similar tools as needed.
- Design implement and manage the Kong Konnect API Catalog (e.g. API Products Product Versions DevPortal).
- Build and standardize automation approaches using tools like Kong Deck custom inhouse solutions and other automation processes.
- Develop custom plugins using Lua to extend Kongs functionality if required.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to integrate Kong with CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitLab CI/CD Azure DevOps).
- Participate in technical discussions with vendors.
Qualifications :
- Strong knowledge of RESTful API design and OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.
- Familiarity with API design patterns including rate limiting throttling and traffic management.
- Solid understanding of API security standards (OAuth JWT SSL/TLS).
- Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Familiarity with microservices architecture and containerization technologies (Docker Kubernetes).
- Understanding of DevOps principles and handson experience with CI/CD tools (e.g. GitLab Azure DevOps).
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g. Prometheus Grafana Dynatrace Graylog ELK).
- Practical experience designing and developing RESTful APIs using .NET Core / Core frameworks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Additional Information :
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform for Kong configuration management.
- Knowledge of secure and scalable API deployment strategies across hybrid and cloud environments (e.g. AWS onpremises).
- Understanding of service meshes and alternative API protocols.
