Job Description

FullTime and Permanent; 7.5 Hours/Day; 252 Days/Year; 12 Months/Year; Grade I

DEFINITION

The Senior Coordinator of OnTime Graduation and Student Engagement is responsible for developing implementing and managing divisionwide programs and initiatives aimed at improving students retention attendance and ontime graduation rates. This role involves collaboration with central office administrators attendance technicians graduation coaches school counselors and schoolbased administrators regarding matters related to: chronic absenteeism/truancy; students who drop out of school; ontime graduation; and other related matters.

SUPERVISION

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief Student Support Safety and Information Officer. Moreover the employee serving in this role will be required to frequently develop and refine their own routines and is expected to carry assignments through to completion independently. This position has supervisory responsibility over graduation coaches attendance technicians and other staff as assigned in collaboration with schoolbased administrators.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE CLASS (May not include all duties performed)

Design and oversee programs to reduce dropout rates and reengage students who are chronically absent or truant.

Develop and implement a model for responding to truancy and chronic absenteeism which includes working with attendance technicians and schoolbased administrators on developing plans of support for students and families.

Supervise and coordinate K12 attendance services to ensure compliance with attendance law and school division policy and procedures.

Create and maintain an ontime graduation handbook that is aligned with federal state and local policies and regulations.

Coordinate services with school division staff to support dropout prevention and wraparound services including identifying alternative education opportunities for students.

Develop and implement a model of tracking dropouts for reentry that includes assessment of students and referral to appropriate educational placements within the continuum of services available.

Utilize early warning indicators to identify high school students who are most likely at risk of not graduating; develop a database of students who are atrisk of dropping out of school and track individual students and subpopulations progress toward graduation.

Design and implement effective dropout prevention and reengagement strategies and programs.

Develop outreach efforts to reengage students who have dropped out and to coordinate alternative education options to help students meet ontime graduation requirements.

Collect and analyze data related to student attendance academic performance and dropout rates to identify students who are and evaluate program effectiveness. Utilize data to develop tailored intervention strategies.

Prepare reports for the administration and stakeholders as required.

Work closely with administrators school counselors graduation coaches and attendance technician to coordinate support services and create a comprehensive approach to student engagement. Conduct professional development for staff on dropout prevention strategies and best practices to support disengaged students.

Coordinate and conduct professional development for direct reports on evidencebased strategies for preventing truancy and dropouts as well as strategies to increase ontime graduation rates.

Analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement. Provide regular reports on progress and outcomes to relevant stakeholders.

Monitor program effectiveness and adjust as needed.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of ontime graduation requirements academic policies and student support services.

Comprehensive knowledge of dropout prevention strategies and student engagement techniques.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Strong problemsolving and critical thinking skills; capacity to analyze situations evaluate options and make informed decisions.

Ability to manage multiple projects prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively.

Ability to lead initiatives and motivate teams to achieve student engagement and graduation goals.

Ability to demonstrate cultural competency fostering an inclusive environment.

Proficient in data collection analysis and reporting.

MINIMUM EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Masters degree in education social work psychology or a related field. Extensive experience in secondary educational settings. Must have at least three years of experience in a supervisory role.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in the field of education social work psychology or related field; administration and supervision endorsement preferred.

PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES

Highly developed verbal and written communication skills for expressing and exchanging ideas; hearing suitable to perceive information at a standard spoken word level; and visual acuity for reading and preparing documents presentations etc.

Stamina to engage in meetings events and student interactions which may require standing or walking for extended periods flexible work hours etc.

Mobility to navigate facilities attend events and meet with students and staff in various locations.

Dexterity and skill in handling technology and tools used for data entry presentations and communication which can involve typing and using office equipment.

HAZARDS

Work involves exposure to normal everyday risks.

High levels of responsibility and pressure to meet students needs and established graduation targets.

Potential to experience and/or be exposed to students and parents/guardians who may demonstrate hostility anger and other unfavorable postures due to academic and/or behavioral challenges personal issues and crisis situations.

Assignments involve collaboration with school and community officials and require travel via selfarranged transportation to various locations throughout the city.

UNUSUAL DEMANDS

When necessary the position requires work during evening hours and weekends to accommodate students schedules especially during peak registration or graduation times.

Must navigate a wide range of student backgrounds cultures and needs requiring sensitivity and adaptability in approaches to engagement and support.
