SUMMARY
The Welding Technology Instructor shall be directly responsible to the institution administration for effective performance of assigned responsibilities and duties. The instructor shall observe rules policies and regulations set forth by the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Shelbyville (TCAT) Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) and the Council of Occupational Education (COE); and shall strive to promote and elevate the mission and philosophy of occupational education within the areas served. They shall keep abreast of industry standards and techniques by visiting industry partners continuing education and reviewing periodicals and industrial magazines commensurate to the course being taught. The instructor shall develop and maintain a complete progressive course of study lesson plans assignments and instructional aides to meet educational requirements and industry standards. They shall also oversee student conduct motivation safety discipline and appearance addressing issues as they arise. The instructor shall build and cultivate partnering relationships with schools business and industry partners to promote the ideals of occupational education and implement an effective placement program for students.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school graduate or the equivalent as determined by the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET)
- AWS Certification Level I or ability to complete it within 12 months of hire date.
- 5 years approved work experience in the occupation to be taught.
- 3 years SMAW GMAW GTAW OFC and PAC experience using different materials.
- 3 years fabrication and blueprint reading experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate degree or diploma from an accredited technical training program in the related field.
- AWS Certification Level III.
- 3 years technical teaching experience.
- 5 years industry related experience.
- Knowledge of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) labeling and policy.
- OSHA 10 certification.
- Classroom experience and administrative experience in delivery of workforce education and competencybased training preferred.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES
- Ability to demonstrate and explain SMAW GMAW GTAW OFC and PAC in classroom and lab experiences.
- Ability to instruct students on use of tools layout information and blueprint reading in fabrication.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of the industry and the ability to use the tools and equipment used in the occupation.
- Knowledge of the principles and methods of good teaching and supervision as evidenced by a rating of education and experience.
- Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office programs (Word Excel Outlook) and other basic computer software and skills needed for the teaching profession.
- Physical ability to lift up to 30 lbs. and to move about the teaching area to demonstrate and perform all occupational duties with or without accommodation.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal working relationships and to deal tactfully with students faculty staff industry partners and the public.
- Strong customer service skills; effective oral and written communication skills; and excellent organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to express ideas clearly concisely and convincingly and to plan and direct the work of others as evidenced by an interview and teaching presentation.
- Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations making decisions and problem solving.
- Knowledge of and ability to perform basic first aid.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure program aligns with all Tennessee College of Applied Technology Shelbyville (TCAT) Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) and Council of Occupational Education (COE) policy requirements.
- Maintain knowledge of industry trends and technology advances in the industry.
- Maintain an organized safe and stable learning environment that is conducive to all (COE) accreditation requirements.
- Evaluate and select textbooks and reference materials prepare curriculum develop lesson plans implement active learning activities to accommodate different learning styles and teach industry skills and competencies commensurate to the course.
- Prepare and/or select and utilize reliable formative and summative inclass assessment tools/techniques to measure student achievement of course competencies.
- Establish grading criteria and utilize Banner to record and submit grades and attendance (tardiness and absences) daily.
- Distribute student syllabus at the beginning of the course to define course competencies performance criteria established approved grading procedures and standards attendance and class policies/procedures and other necessary information to students.
- Teach worker ethics curriculum interpersonal skills postsecondary workforce skills and soft skills within the standard industry framework.
- Demonstrate a commitment to student success by providing guidance and advice to students regarding program areas course progress and academic and disciplinary issues.
- Coordinate all disciplinary issues with administration and student services coordinator.
- Coordinate with Technology Foundations Instructor to schedule student instruction times.
- Promote program specific career technical student organizations to all students (SkillsUSA Student Government Association (SGA) etc.
- Coordinate with the Recruiter to present program information and promote enrollment opportunities to traditional and nontraditional students and the community.
- Meet and collaborate with industry partners on technological advances related to program and occupation.
- Establish a high quality active Occupational Advisory Committee (OAC) per COE guidance and perform no less than two 2 OAC meetings per academic year.
- Provide workbased learning opportunities to all students
- Conduct followup on employment of graduates and maintain followup records on former students.
- Be responsible for and maintain inventory control maintenance and light repair of all equipment tools and supplies assigned to the departments classroom and lab. Report loss or damage immediately.
- Be responsible for and maintain program budget to coordinate the need for equipment tools and supplies; make recommendations for and submit Purchase Orders for items needed for the program.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Adhere to the school calendar and daily class schedule.
- Participate in inservice training workshops and other programs which provide professional growth.
- Check and respond to emails twice daily (minimum).
- Attend all required staff meetings.
- Coordinate annual leave to coincide with student breaks.
- Work a minimum of 37.5 hours per week (exempt); additional hours may be required to fulfill duties of the position and needs of the institution.
- Other duties as defined by administration.
SALARY RANGE: $50142 $60171 annually commensurate with experience and TBR/Tennessee College of Applied Technology salary guidelines.
