We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Crisis Communications Operations & Governance Leader to join our team. Reporting to the Chief Public Affairs Officer the successful candidate will be responsible for developing comprehensive crisis communications policies processes and playbooks and plans that effectively internal and external communication aspects of potential/actual incidents rapidly and effectively. This role requires close collaboration and leads coordination with the whole of the Communications Security Incident Response Team (SIRT) including the Financial Crimes Unit and Marketing Communications & Social Impact (MCSI) partners as well as BMOs Legal and Business teams to deliver seamless integration and communications response strategies and during critical events impacting the bank its customers and key partners.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement Communications Security Incident Response Team (SIRT) communications controls policies and procedures that align with organizational goals.
Maintain an effective control environment with regular monitoring and testing.
Create and maintain crisis communications playbooks and deliberate plans ensuring they are updated regularly and accessible to relevant stakeholders.
Collaborate with the Financial Crimes Unit and Communications & Social Impact leaders to integrate communication strategies and protocols into their operational framework and those of BMOs Lines of Business and Corporate Functions.
Conduct risk assessments to identify potential crises and develop proactive communication strategies to mitigate risks.
Lead crisis communications simulation exercises and training sessions to prepare teams for effective crisis response.
In crisis scenarios coordinate communications activities among all relevant stakeholders.
Collaborate with Enterprise Social Media and Media Relations team to monitor public sentiment and media coverage during crises; then develop timely reporting to leadership and other internal stakeholders.
Review and analyze crisis communications outcomes to improve future responses.

Skills and Attributes:

Exceptional Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
Strategic Thinking: Ability to anticipate potential crises to include cyber fraud and physical and develop proactive communication plans.
Collaboration and Teamwork: Proven ability to work collaboratively with various departments and teams.
Crisis Management Experience: Handson experience in crisis communications or related fields with a strong understanding of crisis management principles.
Analytical Skills: Demonstrated ability to assess situations quickly and make informed decisions under pressure.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous in documentation and policy creation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Adaptability: Flexible and able to adjust strategies based on evolving situations and organizational needs.
Leadership: Strong leadership skills to guide teams during crises and foster a culture of preparedness.
Deep experience in leading crisis communications practices in large diversified organizations during highstress incidents.
Experience in welldocumented structured and regulated environments is highly desirable

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Communications Public Relations Business Administration or a related field.
Minimum 1012 years of handson experience in crisis communications public relations or a related discipline.
Demonstrated experience working crisis communications with financial institutions or regulatory bodies or other government organizations during high profile significant incidents.

Strong familiarity with media relations deliberate crisis management planning and crisis communications tools/software.

Salary:

$103000.00 $190000.00

Pay Type:

Salaried

The above represents BMO Financial Groups pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location skills experience education and qualifications for the role and may include a commission structure. Salaries for parttime roles will be prorated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Groups expected target for the first year in this position.
