JOB DESCRIPTION

Math Instructional Strategist

Primary Purpose:
The Math Instructional Strategist position aims to improve student achievement in mathematics through the vertical alignment and articulation of K12 math standards. This role emphasizes responsiveness to data designing and modeling lessons providing coaching to strengthen instructional capacity and content knowledge promoting the implementation of researchbased best practices and creating systems and structures to move learning forward. The strategist collaborates with instructional leaders specialists teachers and administrators to ensure alignment with K12 math standards and best practices in math instruction. With a proven track record of improving student achievement the strategist exemplifies the power of selfefficacy to promote optimal levels of collective efficacy. By fostering a culture of continuous improvement the Math Instructional Strategist helps create equitable learning opportunities that close achievement gaps and ensure all students are prepared for future academic success.

Reporting Structure: This role reports to the Executive Director of Secondary Education

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Instructional Leadership:

  • Collaborate with elementary and secondary school educators to improve instructional practices and student outcomes in mathematics.
  • Analyze aggregate and disaggregate student performance data to identify trends gaps and areas of need.
  • Develop and implement targeted datadriven strategies to support differentiated small group lessons and interventions.
  • Use indepth knowledge of K12 math standards to guide curriculum alignment and instructional planning.
  • Develop responsive instructional programs and support structures aligned to MTSS.
  • Partner with school administration to design and evaluate schoolbased structures that will fuel increased math achievement and understanding for all students.
  • Routinely engage with Educator Effectiveness teams to provide deep onboarding support for novice or alternatively certified math teachers.
  • Model effective math lessons in classroom settings to demonstrate best practices for engaging and impactful instruction.
  • Assist teachers in effectively using instructional materials and resources to support diverse learners.
  • Provide coaching support through classroom observations constructive feedback and personalized professional development.
  • Facilitate data meetings and professional learning communities to foster collaboration and continuous improvement among staff.
  • Monitor and track the effectiveness of interventions and instructional strategies ensuring alignment with student achievement goals.
  • Stay current on researchbased practices and emerging trends in math education to inform strategies and recommendations.

  • Strong understanding of K12 math standards and their application across grade levels.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to build trust and collaboration with teachers and administrators.
  • Experience in modeling lessons and providing coaching support to educators with varying levels of expertise.
  • Familiarity with instructional materials and technology tools that enhance math instruction.

Education and Certification:

  • Bachelors degree in Education or a related field (required).
  • Masters degree in Education Curriculum and Instruction Administration or a related field (preferred).
  • State certification as a teacher (required) with an advanced certification or specialization (e.g. National Board Certification) being a plus.
  • Ongoing professional development in teaching methods leadership or educational technologies is preferred.

Experience:

  • At least 57 years of successful teaching experience with a proven track record of student achievement.
  • Previous experience in coaching math interventions or leadership roles within a school or educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Experience in curriculum development instructional design coaching and teacher professional development is preferred.

Work Environment:

The Math Instructional Strategist may work in various school or district locations. A significant amount of time is spent observing instruction providing feedback analyzing/responding to data coaching modeling lessons creating instructional materials participating in PLCs leading professional development sessions and collaborating with the district instructional teams teachers administrators and other educational staff. The role may require evening or weekend work for school events professional development activities or community engagement initiatives.
