Hybrid: This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their primary location (Warren MI) three times per week at minimum.

The Role:

At General Motors we are committed to creating a world with zero crashes zero emissions and zero congestion. Our ADAS Compute hardware team is at the forefront of developing cuttingedge technologies like Super Cruise HandsFree Automated Driving that enhance vehicle safety performance and autonomy.

As we move to insourcing hardware design we are building a hardware engineering team that will own the endtoend design and development of our ADAS Compute hardware.

In this role the Hardware Design Engineer ADAS Compute be responsible for the technical design & development of the new ADAS Compute hardware platform for GMs next generation vehicles. The role requires an experienced professional with a background in automotive ECU architecture design and analysis and a proven ability of successfully launching ADAS Compute hardware into production.

What Youll do:

  • Design of ADAS Compute electrical hardware: from SoC/key component selection schematic capture worst case analysis PCB layout bringup debug signal integrity and power integrity (SI/PI) design verification test (environmental and EMC) to manufacturing support and production launch
  • Design and development of the ADAS Compute hardware platform (from concept design to launch) while meeting cost timing quality and safety targets
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams such as software mechanical and manufacturing to ensure seamless integration of the electrical design of the ADAS Compute hardware
  • Work closely with contract manufacturing partners to ensure successful product build from prototype through to mass production while maintaining quality cost and timing targets
  • Electrical schematic design and PCB layout
  • Support new IC design/development strategic to new ADAS Compute designs and architectures
  • Perform/support detailed hardware analysis worst case analysis signal integrity power integrity etc.
  • Execute bringup of hardware design from power supplies SoCs MCUs SerDes interfaces network devices etc.
  • Lead design for manufacturing (DFM) design for assembly (DFA) and design for testing (DFT)
  • Drive the validation and testing of hardware components and systems ensuring high levels of reliability and performance
  • Establish test plans and protocols to validate designs against requirements.
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues perform root cause analysis and develop solutions to resolve design problems
  • Support manufacturing partners in troubleshooting and resolving any productionrelated issues that arise during the manufacturing process
  • Conduct design reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure optimal solutions
  • Lead/support DFMEA/PFMEA of ADAS Compute; ensure lessons learned and best practices are included
  • Provide guidance and consultation to Design Release Engineers (DREs)

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Computer Engineering or equivalent. Masters degree preferred
  • 5 years of experience in electronic hardware design with a strong focus on ADAS hardware design and automotive hardware electronics design
  • Proven ability of successfully launching ADAS Compute buildtoprint hardware into production
  • Experience in designing ADAS Compute hardware and components such as SoCs MCUs PCIe DDR UFS eMMC GMSL FPDLink Ethernet Switches PHY CAN power supply design etc.
  • Strong proficiency in circuit design schematic creation PCB layout signal integrity and power integrity and power management.
  • Experience in design & analysis tools like: Mentor Graphics (schematic & layout) Ansys (signal integrity) Simplis (power integrity) Altair (EMC) Mathcad PSpice & Saber
  • Indepth knowledge of requirements engineering process (FMEA Preliminary Hazard Analyses)
  • Indepth knowledge of verification and validation processes
  • Indepth knowledge of embedded software development testing and associated tools
  • Understanding of hardware design and failure mode
  • Thorough knowledge of design development and test engineering manufacturing and assembly operations engineering processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of automotive industry standards (ISO 26262 ASIL) and safetycritical design principles
  • Experience with systemlevel integration including interfacing with sensors processors and communication protocols
  • Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) design for assembly (DFA) and design for testing (DFT)
  • Excellent problemsolving analytical and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead complex projects and work in a fastpaced crossfunctional environment
