REPORTS TO: Supervisor of the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf
PAY GRADE: Paraprofessional 075

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Facilitate clear and effective communication by interpreting and transliterating in sign (using the students preferred mode of communication) to and for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students in the academic setting.

Minimum Experience:
Experience working directly with adults or children that are Deaf or Hard of hearing.
Experience working with children/students parents or persons with disabilities.
Experience working in an academic setting Preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES:
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:None.
WORKING CONDITIONS:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment adaptive equipment
Posture: Prolonged siting and standing; frequent kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking; repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment. May be required to lift or transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities
Environment:
Possible exposure to biological hazards bacteria and communicable diseases. Work inside and outside (exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather); exposure to noise
Mental Demands:
Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and sign language)
Maintain emotional control under stress
Maintain professionalism with all staff members
Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training wearing personal protective equipment as required reporting injuries and incidents immediately to the supervisor and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
